Autumn Gift Jar

autumn-jar-gift-red-notimetostamp.jpg

  • Stamps: Labelicious
  • Paper: Whisper White, Apple Cider DP
  • Ink: Wild Wasabi
  • Accessories: Pint Jar, Wild Wasabi Double Stitched Ribbon, 5.5″ Circle of Fabric, 2 2.5″ Circles of Felt, Pinking Shears

Here’s another super quick little gift — a jar for anything you may want to give from your kitchen. Great for this fall season and for Christmas gift giving. This one is decorated for fall. I used a Kerr pint jar that is sort of square-ish, but you can use whatever you have. I’m not giving measurements as it all depends on your jar. The largest sheet of paper has to be cut so it fits nicely on the flat part of the jar, so the paper is tight to the jar. Here’s the how-to:

Stamp your label on cardstock and cut out. This is a large label so I cut my first strip of DP, the rust dotted, the same width as my label, x 12″ long. I cut my larger strip of DP, the stripes, 1″ wider than the first piece, x 12″, so you have 1/2″ of the striped paper showing on the top and bottom when layered. Adhere layers together with tape at the center point, under the label. Wrap and fit around jar, adhering the paper together at jar back, one layer at a time.

Hint: I have found that whenever covering something that is not totally flat, that has a rounded shape, if you first tape all your paper together perfectly flat, it never lays quite right on theshaped surface — I prefer to tape each layer separately as I am wrapping it around the jar, and I have found that to give the best fit and look — my opinion anyway!

Now, cuta scrap of fabric into a 5.5″ circle (my Corelle desert bowl inverted is the perfect size to trace) with pinking shears. Then cut 2 circles of felt the size of the jar lid. I just put those under the fabric to give it a little cushy look — not really necessary, but just adds a little more finished, inviting look to your jar. Put on the lid, with fabric, and you are done!!! A super quick little project to give a gift of love from your kitchen!!! Wouldn’t it be fun to make jars to match kitchen towels and/or hot pads and give them all in a basket, decorated to match, of course!!!

Another Hint: It is SUPER EASY to do these type of matchy gift things when you have all the things that coordinate — papers, inks, ribbons — takes all the worry out of wondering if it looks OK — because it ALWAYS will!!!

Halloween Treat Box

boo-gift-box-red-notimetostamp.jpg

  • Stamps: Autumn Apparitions
  • Paper: Apple Cider DP, Basic Black
  • Ink: Black Stazon
  • Accessories: Round Tab Punch, Gingham Ribbon, Crop-A-Dile, Really Rust Eyelets

This is a quick little box I made for Halloween treats. I have no treats today so it is filled with straw! I wasinspired to make this by abox in this style in the SCS galleryof Willosmama as well as the sample in the SU Catalog, page 49. I determined my own measurements to suit my needs. Not being sure what I’ll use this for, and as I MAY insert Halloween cards into it rather than treats, I wanted to be sure it was wide enough to easily house the cards; therefore, I made it 4 1/2″ square and it is 2 1/4″ high. Here’s the instructions:

Cut 2 pieces of double sided DP, each 10.5 x 4.5.Score each piece at 3 and 7.5. Now, put them back in the scorer and score each piece .75″ from the end, all 4 ends (this gives you the folded over flap). So putting them in the scorer and setting them up at 9.75 gives you that .75 at the end. Fold into shape to make sure all is right! Do any stamping you want on the box at this point. Now using your Crop-A-Dile, and making sure the flaps are folded down, punch holes on each side of each end, .5″ in from the end, and centered on the fold over flap. Insert eyelets into those holes. Lay your two pieces down, one on top of the other, in a + shape, using a little tape to keep the two bottom pieces together. Fold the sides up and thread with ribbon and tie to keep the box in shape. Make a little Boo with the round tab punch, border it with black as described in the previous post entitled Autumn Apparition Trio, attach to box and you are done!!!! A very quick and easy box for giving a little gift or just setting out with Halloween candies!

Hint: If you want to save this box for next Halloween, just untie the ribbon and it will store flat, taking essentially no room at all!!! You could actually make a little table decoration box like this for every holiday and store them all in one file folder — how fun!!!!
