Ride ‘em Cowboy!

This card serves double duty! That’s always good!!! I needed to come up with a card in the Boho West theme for a workshop this week — well, what better inspiration than Sweet Miss Daisy’s gallery, and seeing as she was yesterdays FeaturedStamper at SCS, it was perfect!!! She has some of the most gorgeous cowboy cards ever!!! I couldn’t use the stamps she did, but I did take one of her layouts and recreated her card into this sample using all SU! product for my workshop. Here is Anna’s card that I cased: Mister Bubbles. I used different stamps, papers, colors, embellishments, but the layout is Anna’s, along with the distressed, sponged, rustic, manly feel (I hope I got that anyway!).

The main image panel was createdin the following steps:

  1. Stamp Linen backgroundin Creamy Caramel ink onto Natural Ivory paper.
  2. Stamp cowboy/horse image in Classic Black.
  3. Stamp flourishy wind marks in Classic Black.
  4. Sponge center of image with Creamy Caramel Ink, sponging outmore toward the edges with Chocolate Chip ink, and then the edges with Basic Black Ink.***
  5. Distress edges with distressing tool on Cutter Kit, layer onto Really Rust, then onto Sage Shadow, then using mat pack and piercer mark and place brads.
  6. Make a little rope or lasso out of hemp and hang on corner before attaching to card.

I also used the Star Punch and Scallop Punch for additional embellishments, along with brads on all 4 corners. The edges of the Outlaw DP and its Really Rust mat are sponged with Chocolate Chip.

*** The sponging listed above with the 3 inks, starting at center with the lightest and working your way out with the darker colors, is a trick of my sponging/vintagelook hero, Meg Shumaker, known as Waxyo at SCS. When we ran the Dare to Get Dirty Challenges there in July, her challenge was to heavily distress with ink in this fashion, and I refer to it as “Distressing, the Waxyo Way”!!! Here is a link to her Challenge at SCS so you can read the instructions written by the master: Distressing, the Waxyo Way! She called it “Vintage Values”.
