Velvet Bound
I have a project I MEAN to be working on, but the Try a New Technique Challenge (TLC142)popped up this morning at SCS and it was something I REALLY wanted to try out — so,I did! It was Japanese Stab Binding for binding a hand crafted book, but today we are doing it on cards — what fun!!! I’m so glad I tried. Here is my attempt:
If this design looks a bit familiar to anyone, it’s because it is! I wanted to make this card to match/coordinate with the bookmark/sleeve I did for my Friday Stamp Simply Challengea couple days ago. And, because I was trying to make it match and become a *set* (you know me!), I bound my card with velvet. That was probably not the best choice. Although I like the finished result, it was hard to do, even though I did use the largest hole punch on the Crop-a-dile to punch my holes. It was still a very tight squeeze trying to push that soft velvet ribbon through, especially on those 3rd times through the same hole. I used a sheet of paper from the Periphery6 x 6 padby Basic Grey — love that bird!!! There are 3 stamped images I added — the oval frame, the dark border near the bottom and the corner in the upper left. They are all from the newest release by Flourishescalled Flourished Elements — a gorgeous set. The velvet, satin, scalloped satin, and the Periphery pad are also all available at Flourishes.
My finished card is 5.5″ square. The back is a separate piece from the front. The back is cut 5.5 x 6.5, scored at 1″ — this forms the wrap-around binding. I like to do this type of binding and whever I do it always reminds me of a Little Golden Book! It was the perfect binding for today’s challenge to actually bind the card!!! I will definitely try this technique again, only with thinner ribbon. Hope you can give it a try as well!!!

Oh, oh, oh! This is so pretty! Totally elegant and wonderful! I love how you stamped on the paper with the gorgeous Flourished Elements. The frame around the bird, like one of those swings in a birdcage, is perfect!!
