Cuttle-Pal Gift Set

Well, Christmas is literally just around the corner — my cards aren’t out — they’re not even all made — I have very little shopping done — and I have card gift sets I’d like to make for people — and a few more gift card holders — and, and, and —

So, needless to say, my gift sets will be super simple!!! And here’s one I did in 90 minutes — start to finish — I kid you NOT!!! It consists of 6 cards, Cuttlebug embossed and then Scor-Pal embossed, with an embossed envelope to match, all neatly packaged in a beautiful new, perfectly clear box that fits them just to a tee!!! I’m a happy camper!

cuttle-pal-gift-set-520-wm-notime.jpg

The card bases are Soft Sky. The Whipser White is cut 4 x 5.25″. A small embossing folder was used with the Cuttlebug to get the border pattern. I first embossed right in the center. Then I ran it through my Cuttlebug 2 more times, once on each side of the first embossed image. Then to get the straight line on the right side, I took it to my Scor-Pal and quicky ran a score line on thereverse side,so the front would be the embossed side. I also did another embossed panel for the main image, which I narrowly matted in Soft Sky. I wrapped ribbon on the left edge of the embossed panel, attached it to the card base, adhered my main image embossed panel, and done!!! Truly, once you do the 1st card and know where you’re going, these whip up in minutes a piece. There are no words or sentiments on these cards. Being gifts, I wanted them to be sort of all-purpose cards that can be used for any occasion. I think they would work for a wedding, funeral, birthday, get-well — pretty much anything, just not masculine!

My matching embossed envelope isn’t showing up too well in the photo, but I think you can kind of see it. Having matching envelopes just finishes off the set, I think! And I put them in one of my new boxes — LOVE these boxes. I first spotted them on a Blog post of Valerie Stangle’s. Though the box was not the focus of her post, my eyes were drawn to it — I immediately knew that I needed those boxes — LOL!!! I just tried to find her project to show you, but I can’t navigate in her site right now, so I’ll just provide youwith a link to her blog — check out her gorgeous Christmas tree!!! Anyway, I love to make little sets of cards for gifts, and though I do love to make boxes to match the cards, that isn’t always possible, so these clear boxes are the answer!!! This box is 1″deep and easily holds my6 cards with multi layers and 6 envelopes. I also got some boxes in 1/2″ and 5/8″ for sets that have less cards or perhaps thinner cards. I’m anxious to try those out, too. Val was generous in supplying me with the info on where to get these boxes, and I’m happy to share it with you — just click here. They are Clear Bags.com. Any bag or box you can imagine is available. I’m so happy with my purchases from them!!!

Anyway, I think these cards will be a gift for my Mom with a roll of stamps. I get her stamps every year as one of her little gifts. It is so hard to buy gifts for people in their retirement years who don’t want more *stuff*. What do you all buy as gifts for older people? I’d sure love to hear some ideas!!!

Well, I guess that’s it for tonight. I do have many more little gift sets to make, all with different themes that I’ll post when completed. And, believe me, at this point they ALL will be quick and simple projects!!! Hope you are all enjoying your Christmas preparations!!! Thanks for stopping in!!!

  1. Sharon, these are just gorgeous! I have some small cuttle folders, but NEVER use them. They are certainly going to get a workout after seeing what you have done with them. Thank you for the inspiration and the enabling where the Scor-Pal is concerned. I just received one a couple of weeks ago!!

I love your site! Thanks for helping me keep it simple! Just a thought to share what I give my parents—this year for my Dad, I got him a one year subscription to USA Today. He loves to read it, but doesn’t have it delivered anymore—I’m also giving him a magazine subscription that he loves—so, that’s what I got my dad who has everything and if he doesn’t he can go out and buy it!!

Sharon, this is why I continue to come back to your blog over and over. This is so beautiful!! I love that you did not add a sentiment! and you are right, they would work for many occasions! I really love those small embossing panels for the cuttlebug. I don’t own one myself but if I were to get one, I could certainly see myself using those smaller ones more often than the larger ones. They are just so much more elegant! And, of course you can link my blog to your blog, I consider it an honor!! :0)

  9. Tracy says:

Sharon, what a gorgeous set! I’m going to have to look for that embossing plate for sure. Is it an actual cuttlebug folder? I’m keeping my figures crossed that my husband listened and bought me my scor-pal for Christmas but only time will tell. Okay well I’m off to check out the clearbags site. Til next time.

  10. DCorder says:

Oh, I love these. I never know what to do with those little CB folders I have. Question tho – my CB will mark the edge of the folder. Did you have that problem??

    Thank you for the inspiration!

  11. twinks says:

  13. JoAnn (sarahzoe) says:

OMG, Sharon, these are awesome! Beautiful cb folder for a set like this and the white and soft sky are a stunning combination, so pretty. What a gorgeous 90 minute set. Can’t wait to see the rest.

  14. Hazel says:

Your cards are beautiful. I have yet to put anything on my Christmas list, but after seeing these cards, I finally think I need a cuttlebug.

  15. Sabrina aka okimom2girlz on SCS says:

Sharon, you create the most stunning and beatiful things.
Wish I was your friend to get one of those “card sets”. :D:D:D
Really, they are stunning and I guess I’ll have to get these little folders too.

Thanks for sharing your talent with us. You are truly a great inspiration.

  16. LouBelle says:

I have these folders…unused. Guess what I am doing today? Thanks for the beautiful cards! How do you emboss the envelope? Do you just go through both layers?

I used to get my grandmother wool so that she could knit. I buy things for my parents that are their hobbies. I used to give my grandfather stamps as well…he would send out over 200 cards at Christmas!! What about a plant a month? I give my brother-in-law a Jar of my homemade jam every month. You could do a card set-a-month gift! That way it could be seasonal! I once gave my sister a box full of small stamped gifts that she could hand out throughout the different holidays to her students (she teaches 3rd grade). She never had to worry about what to give them for the start of school, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, etc.

  17. These are truly beautiful! Thank you for sharing them – they’re very inspiring. My MIL loves getting gifts of cards, but sadly, I never thought of giving stamps with it. Thanks for the idea, I will definitely be putting that into place!

  18. Pam B. says:

I absolutely LOVE these, Sharon!! What a wonderful way to use those little CB folders…..of course, I (ahem..) ‘had’ to get them when I got my CB, but I just haven’t been able to figure out many things to do with them. As always……Sharon to the rescue!!! I hope you know just how much you inspire others. To me, ‘fancy, gorgeous, elegant’ card creations….equals YOU!! You are THE first person I go to when I need an idea for a card in that style….there is NO one better at them than you!! I’m sure your Mom will love this gift set….and I think LouBelle’s idea of a set-a-month gift is great—you can create part of it now, part of it later, and it’s always created from the heart. Plus, the recipient has gifts to look forward to throughout the year. Maybe give this set to your Mom, with a ‘coupon book’ so she could turn in a coupon when she needs cards for a certain holiday or theme?? It’ll be spectacular, no matter what else you decide to give her. Have a wonderful and blessed Holiday season, Sharon—all the best to you! Hugs—Pam B. (4Hounds)

  19. StampMom says:

Lovely dainty cards — someone sure is lucky!! I may have to give this embossing thing a try…
As far as gifts, my parents specifically have asked for foods, especially Virginia/Southern foods (they live in Maine). There are fruit, meat, jam, coffee of the month clubs. This year they’re getting VA peanuts and real southern B-B-Q sauce.

  20. Joan B says:

    Gorgeous!! WOW, you are clever!

  21. Beth Norman says:

What gorgeous cards. So soft and elegant.

  22. Dawn (stampinscotsgirl) says:

Oh Sharon, you will be the divorce of me, lol!!!! I SHOULD be cleaning, doing laundry, making Christmas cards etc, etc, etc!! But instead I decided to check my email this morning and you have created another MASTERPIECE!! These are ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! Elegance at it’s finest! What a simple yet beautiful gift set. I just love it and luckily for me, I have that embossing folder too!!!!! Guess what’s NOT getting done today, lol!! Luckier still, hubby is working today, so I can play all day!! Thank you so much for your wonderful inspiration. You truly are the queen of elegance! Thank you also for sharing all your wonderful details. You are very kind and giving!

As for gifts for retired parents, my mum loves to make cards too, so I bought her a cuttlebug this year. They still live in Scotland though so she will have to wait until she comes to visit in the Spring as it will be too expensive to post it to her. My dad is another story, I never know what to get him. I do like the idea of a subscription to a paper or magazine though. Great idea. I also like the idea of a set of gift cards a month for my mum. I will definetely be making her a set of these beautiful cards. Thanks again Sharon:)

  23. Bev says:

Just love your card set and packaging idea. So pretty. tfs

  24. Sherrie says:

These are absolutely gorgeous! I have never purchased the smaller CB embossing folders because I was never sure how I would use them. I love what you have done with them! Thank you so much for all your wonderful information and for sharing your talent!!

  25. Sue says:

    Sharon,
These are just gorgeous! Wow 90 minutes is inspirational!
I get my mom gift cards to restaurants and ask her if she and I can share a meal together, or if she’d take the two grandchildren and spend TIME with them over a meal.
I also get photos together from the year and put them into a calendar that is spiral bound with special dates listed for just our family. The office supply places will spiral bind these and even make them for you. (They won’t do the special dates, but those pictures every month are a wonderful reminder to Grandma how special she is.)
Thank you for sharing your creativity with all of us.
    Bless you,
    Sue

  26. 90 minutes? These are so beautiful and elegant — just like everything you do! 🙂

  27. Jamie Wilcox says:

Sharon, these are just beautiful! Talk about timely, too. I won’t have time to do them for Christmas gifts, but was thinking yesterday “I want to do some type of pretty card sets for gifts this coming year” – voila, perfect inspiration! Thank you so much!

your cards are breath taking! AC Moore has Cuttlebug items 40% this week. I will be sure to get this set. When I first saw these in the store, I had no idea what you can do with it. Now I surely do. Just beautiful!!!
As for what to give to our dearly senior citizens—
What about Netflix/Blockbuster gift certificates? Indoor green house to grow herbs/spices. Magazine subscriptions.
Or join the “Fruit of the Month” club like what Raymond Romano did for his parents’ on “Everybody Loves Raymond”. Just Kiddin’

  41. Debbie (DeborahLynneS) says:

These are so gorgeous Sharon!!! Love the embossing and the Soft Sky. So pretty!!! I don’t have any small folders, just the large ones. Looks like I’m going to have to make a trip to Marquette!!! (These are the small plastic ones, right?)

  42. Silke Ledlow says:

Sharon, these cards are absolutley gorgeous….I’m sure your mother will love them!!!

  43. Marisa says:

Lovely cards! Going to have to look for these templates for myself 🙂

As for gifts…subscriptions to a magazine or paper, I’ve given money to Samaratin’s purse or another charity in her name (give a goat or pig to a family or money to send a kid to school etc.), pictures of grandkids or a family picture, picture frames or “mad money” for them to spend on what they want. Love the idea of a set of a cards a month too.

  44. Jerri Jimenez says:

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, I love these cards! I tried my hand at it this afternoon and made eight 4 x 4’s. I didn’t have any problems with the edges of the folders imprinting on my cardstock. Everything turned out wonderful. I used the 2 x 2 folder with the little Christmas scene and used the large snowflake folder. I put my paper in it in such a way as to emboss only a portion of the paper. I then used my Scor Pal and ran two parallel vertical and horizontal lines that intersected in the lower right corner. I used Bravo Burgundy for the card base and for the panel with the 2 x 2. After I embossed the little 2 x 2, I ran it through the Cuttlebug using the Nestabilities to cut the circle. I used the scallop circle for the Bravo Burgundy panel. The cards are for gifts I made for my Mom’s siblings. I really need to upload some of the projects I’ve been working on!

  45. Michelle (MilwaukeeMommy) says:

Oh, Sharon, I am right there with you! I didn’t even *make* my Xmas cards this year & I still haven’t gotten any sent out!! My shopping is only half done ~~ every year I say “next year I’m going to start earlier”. I start early enough, I just can’t FINISH early!! My mom is trying to downsize because she wants to move to a condo ~~ she has no hobbies, hates to read, hates going out to eat, only wears schleppy clothes ~~ she is SOOOO hard to buy for & I usually end up doing the same ~~ gas cards, stamps, grocery cards…….I’m all outta ideas for her!!

  46. nancy littrell says:

Gorgeous and simple……the perfect combo. I also do handmade cards, postage stamps and trays of cookies/candy. Anything that you can eat or that is useful and does not take up much space 🙂 I have been wanting these boxes forever. TFS the link, Nancy

  47. WOW! You constantly amaze me! These look so simple to make, but they’re amazingly well designed.

  48. Debbie Olson says:

Sharon, you are the design PHENOM! How utterly and absolutely perfect! I’m going to buy that CB folder right now (already pulling it up–that’s how enabling you are!) Seriously beautiful!!

  49. joyk says:

Pardon the pun Sharon, but those cards definitely have your STAMP on them!!! LOL They are just beautiful!!!! And I have that folder too…………yippppppppeeeeeeeeeee!

  50. joyk says:

sorry………didnt answer your question……….I think this makes a great gift, especially with the stamps included……….i also include return address stickers. I have bought gift certificates for pedicures, which many times is very helpful at the retirement age, and also gift certificates for beauty shop services.

  51. Oh
    My
    Goodness!
These are so exquisite, no one would ever believe that they are simple to do! No one!

  53. Dawn E. says:

Oh my word Sharon! This is BEAUTIFUL! Wonderful gift set, someone is going to be very happy 😉

  54. Holy gorgeous card! LOVE it!

  55. Sue Nelson says:

    Sharon,

Elegant and lovely as are all of your creations. I have a gift idea that goes along with your cards.

Provide a calendar of birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions ( i.e. Mother’s, Father’s Day, etc.) marked on it. Then stamp or create cards for each and every occasion, being sure to include extra cards for graduation, new baby, thank you, thinking of you and sympathy cards.. Or how about a Binder with pocket divider pages in it. That would be something you could “renew” every year with new calendar pages, and the cards could slip right inside the pockets per month. Stamps included and a nice beaded pen is such a perfect gift for someone who has everything. You could decorate the binder and divider pages with scrapbook paper that could coordinate.

Mmmmmmm, so beautiful! I haven’t seen these small embossing folders before. Of course, I’ve been avoiding shopping… I might have to explore these after Christmas. You certainly make them look like a necessity! I think anything that can be used, rather than simply sit and take up space, is a good gift for anyone who already has a well established household. I always like the idea of including postage stamps with a gift of cards, too.

  57. Traci Major says:

These are such an elegant idea for card sets, one question though: are these embossed images found with the Cuttlebug folders? I have not seen these yet. Also, if you do not yet have the score-pal, do you think just the scoring tool on your cutter could work? I’d love to duplicate something like this as gifts for a couple of friends. Thanks for always sharing your super ideas Sharon!
