Beautiful Thing

This is a card I did today for yesterday’s Featured Stamper Challenge on SCS,and the FeaturedStamperis Nancy Riley — YAY Nancy!!! Here’s the link to her Blog and to her SCS gallery. I got to know Nancy through the world of Blogging, and she is every bit as sweet as her work is beautiful. I rarely do the Sunday Challenge, though it would probably be my most favorite — what fun to go into someone’s gallery and recreate anything you want — it’s like being a kid in a candy store — LOL!!! But, Sundays are busy daysfor usand I’m not usually able to stamp, but I did make time today, and here’s my result:

The card of Nancy’s that I cased can be seen here. However, as is usually the case with me, I took the easy way out — LOL!!! Nancy’s gorgeous card was done with reverse masking where she created the illusion of 3 floral panels. I simply and quickly stamped my images on a piece of white cardstock (4 1/2 x 4), then cut it into thirds so each strip is 1 1/2″ wide, and adhered them to my card. They were first lightly watercolored with reinkers and a combination of an aquapainter and blender pen. I used the beautiful new set from SU called A Beautiful Thing — love this new set!!! I combined it with Doodle This — see the stem?

Then came the fun part — I used my new Rub-ons from SU — what fun!!! I haven’t had much experience with rub-ons, so this truly was a thrill for me — LOL!!! I rubbed the white large flower onto black paper and cut it out, the Smile was oval punched, and the Life is Beautiful was rubbed right onto the card itself. Talk about fun!!! I think I may do this card at Hostess Club this month — I know my friends will LOVE these rub-ons!!! Cool stuff!!! I won’t have enough large flowers, but I think we can make a flower to look similar by stamping, cutting and layering 2 of the large Doodle This flowers. Oh, and I added the half pearls from the Pretties Kit — don’t they just finish it off perfectly!!!

I’m really pleased with this card, and it was rather quick to make; however, there are 2 mistakes on this card, which I probably shouldn’t mention — but I will!!! I see so many people obsessing about *getting it right* — well, as far as I’m concerned there is NO right — it’s just what you do and how it comes out. Here’s my mistakes:

1) The white panels were supposed to be large enough to cover the entire card front — well, I calculated wrong when I figured a 4 1/2″ wide piece of white would do it — so, I ended up with the black space on the right - oh well — fill it in with something and call it good!!!

2) The Life is Beautiful rub-on — well the L on Life is messed up a little, but not too bad. Being inexperienced with rub-ons, I did find it a bit difficult to cut out this thin little saying and then get it straight where I wanted it - and then when I was rubbing, the paper just pulled up itself before I was done — so the L is messed up — but, live and learn — hope I do it better next time around!!!
