100% Guy
I patiently waited this morning for Julia’s Ways to Use it Challenge to pop up at SCS before I started my daily project. I need to get 2 cards done today, both for workshops — one that is specifically a guy card, and one that is a more feminine card. Well, when the challenge to use staples popped up — there was my guy card — it called out to me loud and clear. I knew exactly what I was going to do — LOL!!! Here it is:
I’ve had, but haven’t used, Stamp of Authenticity for quite a while. Why is it we always gravitate to making more girly, pretty cards? Well, today was the day for this set, and did I have fun!!! I love doing more of a rugged, collage type look for guys - it just seems to *go*, for me anyway!!! Maybe because that’s the kind of guys I have around here — rugged and just thrown together — LOL!!! Anyway, for a bit of interest I used a piece cut from a cast off pair of blue jeans — I have stacks of these. Actually, they wouldn’t be cast off if only I’d repair them — but who has time for that — let’s cut them up and use them on cards (but please don’t tell!)!!! That surely solves the problem - LOL!!!
OK, I stapled my blue jean piece to the card and used a ton of punched items to fill it up. I think you can just kind of see what I did. All stamps are from the same set and I also used the Sanded background stamp, stamped in black on the white base. Then I took the *authentic* stamp and randomly stamped over the sanded, still in black. On the *original* tag I did use the retired SU Deckle Scissors, but that wouldn’t be necessary — I just like those scissors!!! Used lots of Pop Dots (they are thicker than the Dimensinals and I need those all the time it seems, from Wal-Mart) and Dimensionals — tons of texture and elevation to this card IRL. I like it!!!

- Accessories: Jumbo Eyelet, Vintage Brads, Staples, reitred SU Deckle Scissors, Crafter’s Tool Kit, Cropadile, Pop Dots, Dimensionals, Punches: Large and Small Star, Large and Small Tag, 3/4″, 1 1/4″, 1 3/8″ Round, Corner Rounder, Scrap of real blue jeans
Now, I have a question and I’d like an honest answer, OK? What would you think if you went to a workshop and were given this card to make? Would you find it odd to be getting a piece of old blue jeans? Would you find it offensive? Or would you consider it different and fun? The jeans are fresh out of the wash clean. My hostess for next week requested a specificially guy card, which this is, but I wonder — be honest, please!

I would actually be impressed if I went to a workshop and used a piece of denim on a card — that’s so “out of the box”!! It just shows how you can use ANYTHING on cards! Looks great Sharon!

I think that this is one of the most original cards I’ve seen. I would love to show up at a workshop and be handed a denim rag to be used on a card. PERFECT!!

I would think it was a great idea! It’s fun when your first learning to stamp and make cards to use everyday items. It teaches us to think outside the box! This is a fantastic guy card! Love everything you did! Can I come to your class? I wish!

Here’s my thoughts as I was reading along…I hope this card is one we are making for Sue’s do. I am set to try this! Also, wouldn’t pieces of worn flannel and chambray shirts work pretty well, too. I have lots of those! Helen
The scrap of denim is SO fun. I wouldn’t mind a bit!
Personally, I would think that was fantastic. I love re-using things and it makes you feel so much better about buying new stuff since you’re being so virtuous about recycling. I wouldn’t be bothered by it at all. You could always have a few pieces of blue cardstock and a nice bg stamp that people could substititute if they preferred. Besides, wouldn’t these people realize how darn *lucky* they are to be at a workshop led by *the* Sharon Johnson!?! They should be happy just to be in your presence soaking up your psychic energy, never mind get to stamp something you designed.
I think the denim is a great idea, and it would be really fun to have something ‘outside the box’ like that to create with at a workshop!! Will you be my demo please?? Oh wait, I’m a demo… well I still think your parties would be more fun.
Ohhhhhhhh I think that would be funner than anything!!!! I bet there will be an excited buzz in the room when they see the materials for this card!!!

Ditto, Libby! That is what creating is all about! AND who doesn’t have old jeans around the house? It’ll be really popular since you are using the “recycle” element and “frugal” element. Your attendees will LUUUUVVV it!

I love this card and wouldn’t have a problem if I was handed a piece of recycled material, be it jeans or whatever. Actually that piece of material looks a lot better than some of the jeans they are selling in the stores now! It is a great man’s card. Thanks for the inspiration.
I would not be offended to get the denim, or any other type of fabric such a shirts as Helen suggested at a workshop. Brill card Sharon. Only found your blog a few days ago - so yet to get through it all - but it is truly inspiring. Thanks
Hi Sharon, I would offer the denim and they can either put it on their card, or not! I think it is a great card even without the denim, I LOVE collage!
I would think it was awesome to get it. It would help open people’s eyes to the different things you can use in projects that they wouldnt normally think of on their own. Thanks for sharing!!
This is a great man’s card and I would love to be attending your class. I’m all for recycling/re-using everyday items and this works perfectly!

Very cool guys’ card!! I would not be offended about using a piece of denim for a project at at workshop at all! It teaches people to use other items they may have available for their creations…and it’s so ‘out of the box’!

I would love to be at the workshop and making this card. I think I would completely shocked in a good way, if my demo gave me some blue jeans to put on my card. What a wonderful idea to commemorate a new year for a young boy, than to cut up his last year’s favorite jeans and put on a card for him to keep. Great idea!!

I’d love to do this card at a workshop. I think as women, we all gravitate towards the “girly” type of cards but we also need some “guy” cards. I personally thought the piece of old jeans material was very unique.

You are so silly! Jeans/Levi’s….whatever are so All American and perfect for a guy card or even a tomboy (like me) kind of a card. I love all the dimension, punches and All American colors. TFS

Heck, if you fixed the jeans you wouldn’t have any stamping material to work with, right??!! LOL 
I love the originality of the card and would have no problem using “used” jeans — there may be a whole new market for those old jeans now 
Only glitch would be the guy you are giving this type of card to. Think it would be fun to make at a workshop with the only disclaimer being the type of ladies who would be attending and the men in their lives. Do the ladies like more “classic/traditional” type of cards or are they okay with “out of the box” cards. Also, do they have “professional, yuppie type” men in their lives who may not appreciate this type of card or do they have the more casual, rugged type who would most likely love it. My two bits for what they are worth.
I can honestly tell you that if I was just learning to stamp I’d think “wow, I’d never have thought of that”! And I’d be inspired and grateful for the idea. This is a fabulous card for any guy no matter what his interests. I love it!

I love the idea of the denim. Like someone else suggested — give the ladies a chance to “think outside of the box” and give them the choice. I’m sure most will choose it. It’s a great idea! Jeanne
I really like the card and think the jeans is an “inspired touch”.
Like someone else mentioned, given a choice they can leave the denim off their card– would be a neat card even without the denim.

This is fantastic!!! I always love your guy cards! I think it would be great to get blue jeans to work with — it shows that you can use what you already have at home to make great, creative cards!!
I would love to make this at a ws. I think that it would show people the versatility of card making - and give them the freedom to use whatever strikes their fancy! I LOVE this card!
I love that you re-purposed a throw-away! My kids are constantly ripping holes into what seem like just purchased jeans-now instead of a scolding for not being more careful, I’ll be happy for more “scrap material”!! My kids thank you in advance!
Your card is great and I think it’s a great idea to incorporate the fabric swatch for a workshop card…just look at everything you see on store bought cards these days…your hostess and her guests should be duly impressed!

Your card caught my eye so fast I commented before reading your post. The jean piece is wonderful. I would LOVE to make a card like this at a workshop.
Now that is a design that you can pull off with staples. I’m not a staple kind of person, but they are perfect for that.
