Stamp Simply Challenge #21 - Bake-Off!
Challenge #21 - Keyword ssnotime21 - There is no time limit. You can play this challenge and upload your project at Splitcoast and/or your Blog, anytime at all! You can play as many times as you like!!! The point is to keep it simple, quick and have fun!!! Please link back here.
Today’s challenge is a *Bake-Off* — yes, just like the Pillsbury Bake-Off!!! They are holding a Cake Decorating 101 Contest (with prizes!) over in the Flourishes Member Company forum at SCS, so I’ve got cakes on the brain, and thought it would be fun if we all showed off our finest baked goodies — that would include not only cakes and cupcakes, but anything at all that we bake — I’m sure you’ll have a lot of surprises for this Bake-Off! And please note that this can be very liberally interpreted — this is not about sticking to a list of rules, it’s about having fun — so if you don’t have any stamps of sweet delectables, just think of what other things we may bake or eat — what’s in a casserole (meat = animals, etc.), how about seeds, grains, herbs, etc. — I think you get the idea! Just have fun and, as always, try to keep it simple — that’s the point here!
Remember when you upload to use the keyword above, followed by a comma. Please come back here to post (as a comment) that you’ve played, and provide a link so I can check out your card right away. You can find all cards uploaded for this challenge by clicking Gallery Submissions Here.
Some wanting to play said they have never uploaded before. If that’s you and you need help uploading, just go to my Challenge No. 1 here.
Here’s my sample — a simple card made with Cake Decorating 101 by Flourishes. The thing I really love about this stamp set is that it allows you to make a super simple card, as I have done here, but it also includes just a ton of fancy little scallops and other cake decorations, allowing you to spend as much time as you care to creating a cake that is truly a masterpiece. Whatever your fancy, you can make it with this set!!!
My cake and plate are paper pieced, which is fun and quick, and I love the look of paper piecing. First, I ran a 1/4 sheet of white through the Cuttlebug with my brand new (just got it today) Swiss Dots embossing folder — wow, am I going to love this folder!!! Now that I have my piece, I punched the border on one short end with the Martha Stewart Lace Punch and cut my valance piece to 1 7/8″ in depth. Then with the remaining Swiss Dots I could stamp my cake in black ink and cut it out. The cake plate and pedestal were both embossed with white on black paper and cut out. The cake itself is up on Dimensionals.
Back to the valance — I also punched a strip of black with the MS Lace Punch and layered it behind my Swiss Dots, offsetting it just a tad — you can barely see it peeking through, but it sure adds a lot of depth to the valance. And I used some fun dotted ribbon as well!
And why all these dots today — well, Thursday Julia’s WT Challenge at SCS was to incorporate dots into your project — I knew my new embossing folders would likely arrive later in the day, so I patiently waited for them!!! So, yes, this is also for Julia’s challenge of yesterday to use dots!!!
Let me point out that anyone doing a card for this challenge with Cake Decorating 101 by Flourishes, can also link their card to the Cake Decorating 101 Contest thread at SCS and you’ll have a chance to win a prize. They will be giving many away this month, so you’ll have more than one chance! What fun!!! The contest runs all month, so if you’d like the set, I do believe you still have plenty of time to order it — they ship super quick!!! They also have a lot of great Basic Grey 6 x 6 pads and wonderful ribbons!!!
