Acorn Thanks

Still playing with First Fruits by Papertrey Ink.  This is my 3rd day of uploads using this autumn set.  Today’s card features the acorn image — fun!!  I will have another post using the pinecones and boughs, but that’ll have to wait for a few days.  I made this card specifically for a man, and I think these papers work great for a masculine card — still using the Fall Harvest Mat Pack by K & Co. from Michaels.  I’m really enjoying these rich autumn papers.  They are heavy and almost have a feeling of being coated — just a small pad, but it’ll easily get me through this autumn season.

  • Stamps:  First Fruits by Papertrey Ink
  • Paper:  PTI White,  SU Old Olive, Chocolate Chip, Ruby Red, Fall Harvest Mat Pack by K & Co.
  • Ink:  Versa Fine Onyx Black, SU Really Rust, Close to Cocoa, Old Olive, Ruby Red.
  • Accessories:  Leaf Punch by McGill, SU Aged Copper Hodgepodge Hardware, Corner Rounder, Ticket Corner Punch, Dimensional.

Again, a simple card.  The acorn is stamped on the white, and the acorn cap is then stamped on another sheet, cut out and popped up.  I enjoy the options with all the words offered in this set — and a simple “Thankful for you” is just what I needed here.  My leaves are punched, and I get a lot of questions every time I use this punch.  Here’s a close-up:

acorn-thanks-420-leaf-closeup-notime.jpg

I first stamp the paper with a bit of background stamping, tone on tone, and really, just about any stamp will do, just to get a bit of visual texture on the paper.  Then punch out the leaves, then I quickly draw in some vein lines — nothing fancy — just some quick lines, then I sponge the edges of the leaves, again tone on tone.  Finally, I curl up the ends a bit with my fingers before adhering to the card.  And WHERE to find this punch is always the question — it is made by McGill.  I purchased it years ago in a small LSS in Wisconsin.  I recently did a Google search and couldn’t find it, but they do have a leaf in another shape, which is equally as nice.  If anyone else searches and does happen to find this punch, I’d sure appreciate knowing where — thanks!!!

Editing:  Oh my gosh — you guys are TOO great!!! Susan Roberts (rainy) found this leaf punch here, and Judy Walsh found some FABULOUS leaf punches by Marvy that both cut AND emboss the veins at the same time — to die for!!! But they are a bit pricey as you need to buy them in a set of 3 for $60 - ouch!!!!  But they look wonderful — see them hereTHANK YOU LADIES — YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!  OK, here’s one of those alone for $22, and another and the third!  OR, check out this set of  Harvest dies by Spellbinders, and this page has more Spellbinder dies.  Thanks, Jerri Kay, for pointing out the Spellbinder dies — fabulous!!!

And tomorrow we have our regular Friday Stamp Simply Challenge — but we’ve added a fun twist to it for the next 6 weeks — so be sure to stop in and see what we all have up our sleeeves — it’ll be super fun to play along!!!  Again, I’m so glad you took the time to stop in — thank you so much!!!  We are still enjoying beautiful fall weather, mildly warm with beautiful breezes — can’t get much better!!!  Hope you are having a great week as well!!!

Your three fall cards are really beautiful, Sharon. I definitely have to find that K and Company paper (I’m a sucker for plaids) — and the leaf punches.

Another gorgeous autumn creation!! You are quite the enabler — I broke down and bought First Fruits yesterday, and now I need a punch!! As much as I love the season, they will get plenty of use! Thanks, as always, for your inspiration! :)

    Beautiful!!
I just love fall–and this is cozy–just like a bulky sweater and hot cider!
I love both the main image and those LOVELY leaves!!
It shouldn’t be long before you have some beautiful color up there!! (almost jealous that you get to see it so early–but I am glad to wait for the snow-;) )

Gorgeous Sharon, simply gorgeous! Such a perfect Fall card for a guy. I couldn’t help but take at peek at the punches, wow, incredibly expensive! Spellbinders and Cuttlebug both have leaf dies that are very reasonable and Spellbinders’s die can be embossed with the embossing mat.

Thanks for the details about the leaves. I have a older Sizzix die that looks a lot like that one. I’ll have to try your technique.
