BLOG CANDY #15 - Scor-It Mini

Today I have a fabulous offering for Blog Candy so generously donated by the folks at Scor-It. We have a Scor-It Mini as well as a Tote Bag made especially for it.

I have both the full size Scor-It and the Mini Scor-It and I love them both. The full size Scor-It has a permanent place on my counter near my paper cutter and I keep the Mini Scor-It on my work table where I prepare projects. Both Scor-Its are the same as far asconstruction and performance, the only difference is the size. You can read all the specs as to each board at the Scor-It site here. The project I prepared for today required the use of the full sized board because I was scoring along an 8.5 length. And what fun I had making this Journal right from scratch!!!

This was made quite simply using a heavy white cardstock. I used Papertreys White. The back cover, front cover and spine are all separate pieces and there are 5 pages inside. It opens and functions easily as all pages and the coversare scored. Heres a photo of all the individual parts, and Ill follow with instructions.

The front and back covers are in the back, already covered with DP. They are each cut 8.5 x 5.5. Using the Scor-it, score each cover 1.25 from the bound edge. Cover each with DP, covering beyond the score line. The outsides only arecovered,I left the insides a crisp white, just like the pages.Once covered round the outer corners. Sponge the outside edges to soften. I punched my holes with the large punch on the Cropadile, 2 in from top and bottom.

To make the pages, cut your sheets8.25 x 5.25 so theyre just a bit smaller than the cover. Corner round the outside edges and stamp a design on page corners if desired. Using the Scor-it, score each sheet 1.25 in from edge. Staple them all together in the center as shown, precisely lay on top of cover for hole placement, mark holes and punch.

The tall blue piece is the binding, cut 8.5 x 3. Using the Scor-it, score the binding 1 3/8 in from each long edge, leaving you witha narrowspinefor your book. Carefully lining this up on your book cover, mark the holes and punch. You can now assemble the book, running ribbon through the holes. I used a combination of organdy and satin. I then attached all my decorative elements the large chipboard frame with a stamped image inside, my Journal nameplate and small flower on the binding.

Isnt this chipboard piece just the greatest!! I love it and it was the starting point for this project. I chose my papers, design and image based on this chipboard piece. It is by K & Co. from Michaels. My image inside is the center only of the Harmony Classic Circle Stamper III by JustRite. I just love this butterfly image and the sentiment so pretty and I thought so appropriate for a Journal. I colored my butterfly with Copics and then went over it entirely with a Clear Spica Glitter Pen and it sparkles SO nicely!!! I then cut and embossed my image using a Petite Circle Nestability by Spellbinders. I left my image in the die and sponged on ink to age and soften the image, creating the nice white border.

Here’s a look at the back of the book, and the Journal sentiment was typed on the computer, Segoe Print 36 pt., cut and embossed on a Double Ended Tagdie by Spellbinders, and then again, left in the die to sponge on some color, then attached to the book cover with brads. What a fun project this was, and using a Scor-It to score all fold lines just makes this little journal function so well!!! These really don’t take long at all to make and I think would be such a nice little gift. I hope to get more made!!!
