Trio of Simple Thanks

Today I combined 2 challenges to create this trio of simple thank you cards. The colors of So Saffron, Bravo Burgundy and Handsome Hunter were taken from today’s Color Challengeat SCS, and my basic layout was taken from my good friend, Barb Schram, who was the Featured Stamperon Sunday over at SCS. Barb’s Blog can be seen here. Here are my cards:

I knew I wanted to do something quick and simple for thank you notes, and I was so pleased to find this simple and lovely card in Barb’s gallery. Now Barb went to a lot more work with her card in cutting out her little man, whereas I used a Labels One Nestabilities by Spellbinders to quickly cut and emboss my Thank You sentiment. I also corner rounded the bottoms.

Stamps: Thank You by Stampendous

Paper: SU Very Vanilla, So Saffron, Handsome Hunter. Wonderland DP by Cosmo Cricket

Ink: SU Bravo Burgundy

Accessories: Labels One Nestabilities by Spellbinders, SU Corner Rounder.

Thanks much for stopping in. I do have a lot more thank you notes to come up with and I want to start on Valentines soon for The Ultimate Valentine Challenge. Check it out here if you haven’t read about it yet. Happy New Year everyone!!! Be safe!!!!

The Ultimate Valentine Challenge

Published by notimetostamp under Announcements

1,000 Valentines. Can we do it??? I believe we can!!!

I’m sure most of you know my friend Julie Koerber, Out to Impress. And I know many of you also know Julie’s Mom, Pat Adam, The Rubber Maid. Pat is a regular player in our Friday Stamp Simply Challenges. Pat is from my home state of Michigan, but she lives closer to the Detroit area. And Pat, bless her heart, does volunteer work for Children’s Hospital in Detroit. She heads up a charity called Cards 4 Kids. Well, Pat was just given the Ultimate Challenge!!! The administrator of Children’s Hospital recently contacted Pat and asked if she could come up with 1,000 Valentines — oh, how happy these children will be to receive such special Valentines!!! There are both smaller children AND teenagers in need of a Valentine.

But at the same time, can you just imagine the huge responsibility put on Pat to come up with 1,000 Valentines!!! Oh my goodness!!!! But I do believe, with all our help, she can do it!!! I know I have many cards here with hearts that will work perfectly for Valentines and I’m surely going to be making some more. How about you — can you help??? If so, please email Pat directly at mrsmiley6@aol.comfor further instruction. You may also read this older post on Pat’s Blog about how Cards 4 Kids got started.

I LOVE a good challenge — and this IS a GOOD CHALLENGE!!! Your help and support will be greatly appreciated not only by Pat, but especially by all those children who will receive these cards this Valentine’s Day!!!! Thank you!!!

MacKenzie Childs Inspired

When I saw the Inspiration Challengetoday over at SCS, I just knew I had to play, time or not!!! The inspiration was from MacKenzie Childs — how fun!!! I LOVE the fun, funky and whimsical look of all things MC!!! For my inspiration for this card I used the first item pictured, which is the chair. Here’s my card:

ic160-mackenzie-480-wm-notime.jpg

This is the same bathtub image I used on my last post, but it was out and I thought it was just PERFECT for a MacKenzie Childs piece. This adorable bathtub image is Chill Out, by Annie LaPointe, an MFT stamp, that I got from Stampers Dream. Fun stamp!!! It is colored with Copics. My striped background was made by cutting and adhering 1/2″ strips of black paper onto yellow. The black scallop is made using my Long Rectangle Nestabilities by Spellbinders (just cut a scallop rectangle, then cut off the 1″ or so you need — easiest scalloped border EVER). The corners are Cuttlebug dies. Fun card and a fun challenge!!!

ic160-mackenzie-copics-420-notime.jpg

Stamps: Chill Outby MFT from Stampers Dream

Paper: PTI White, SU Black, Summer Sun, Almost Amethyst

Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, White Gelly Roll Pen

Accessories: Petite Oval Nestabilities and Long Rectangle Nestabilities by Spellbinders, Cuttlebug Corner Die, SU Brads, May Arts Dotted Sheer Ribbon, Cropadile to punch holes for ribbon, Glue Pen.

Thanks much for stopping in again!!! We’re still in holiday/vacation mode at our house and I’m having great difficulties finding time to stamp — LOL!!! The house is full and there is a lot going on, but it’s fun!!! I’m still aiming for a post every day, but no promises!!! I’ll do what I can!!! Hope you are all enjoying your holiday as well!!!

The new item I used on this card is this adorable bathtub image, Chill Out, by Annie LaPointe, an MFT stamp, that I got from Stampers Dream (remember, I told you I got quite a few new stamps to share!!!) I just LOVE these adorable bathtub images!!! This is just a quick little card with the image being popped up for effect, and it’s popped up quite a bit with some thicker dimensional products. Not so good for mailing, but I do love the effect. It makes the little image appear more like a piece of art hanging on a wall!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!

Published by notimetostamp under Chit Chat

I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in thecity of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.

Luke 2:10,11

Here it is, Christmas Eve 2008, and we just returned from church. We have a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service that is just so beautiful with all the candles burning in the otherwise darksanctuary as the congregation sings Silent Night. It truly evokes feelings that no other service throughout the year can match. We have all been so busy this past month or so getting ready for Christmas– let us all now relax and take in the true wonder that Christmas signifies — the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who was sent here not only to live among us but to die on the cross for us, providing a way for each of us to have eternal life in heaven. Praise the Lord!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!!!

And before I go, I’d like to leave you with a favorite piece that I have read each Christmas since my childhood. It’s the “Yes, Virginia” story. I shared it here last year and was amazed at the amount of people who had never read this before. I find it a heart-warming piece to read, and re-read, each year. I hope you enjoy it whether you have read it before or not. Here it is:

Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus

By Francis P. Church, first published in The New York Sun in 1897. [See The Peoples Almanac, pp. 13589.]

We take pleasure in answering thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the same time our great gratification that its faithful author is numbered among the friends of The Sun:

Dear Editor

I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, If you see it in The Sun, its so. Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?

Virginia OHanlon

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be mens or childrens, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The external light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but thats no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You tear apart the babys rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

About the Exchange

Francis P. Churchs editorial, Yes Virginia, There is a Santa Claus was an immediate sensation, and went on to became one of the most famous editorials ever written. It first appeared in the The New York Sun in 1897, almost a hundred years ago, and was reprinted annually until 1949 when the paper went out of business.

Thirty-six years after her letter was printed, Virginia OHanlon recalled the events that prompted her letter:

Quite naturally I believed in Santa Claus, for he had never disappointed me. But when less fortunate little boys and girls said there wasnt any Santa Claus, I was filled with doubts. I asked my father, and he was a little evasive on the subject.

It was a habit in our family that whenever any doubts came up as to how to pronounce a word or some question of historical fact was in doubt, we wrote to the Question and Answer column in The Sun. Father would always say, If you see it in the The Sun, its so, and that settled the matter.

Well, Im just going to write The Sun and find out the real truth, I said to father.

He said, Go ahead, Virginia. Im sure The Sun will give you the right answer, as it always does.

And so Virginia sat down and wrote her parents favorite newspaper.

Her letter found its way into the hands of a veteran editor, Francis P. Church. Son of a Baptist minister, Church had covered the Civil War for The New York Times and had worked on the The New York Sun for 20 years, more recently as an anonymous editorial writer. Church, a sardonic man, had for his personal motto, Endeavour to clear your mind of cant. When controversal subjects had to be tackled on the editorial page, especially those dealing with theology, the assignments were usually given to Church.

Now, he had in his hands a little girls letter on a most controversial matter, and he was burdened with the responsibility of answering it.

Is there a Santa Claus? the childish scrawl in the letter asked. At once, Church knew that there was no avoiding the question. He must answer, and he must answer truthfully. And so he turned to his desk, and he began his reply which was to become one of the most memorable editorials in newspaper history.

Church married shortly after the editorial appeared. He died in April, 1906, leaving no children.

Virginia OHanlon went on to graduate from Hunter College with a Bachelor of Arts degree at age 21. The following year she received her Masters from Columbia, and in 1912 she began teaching in the New York City school system, later becoming a principal. After 47 years, she retired as an educator. Throughout her life she received a steady stream of mail about her Santa Claus letter, and to each reply she attached an attractive printed copy of the Church editorial. Virginia OHanlon Douglas died on May 13, 1971, at the age of 81, in a nursing home in Valatie, N.Y.

Bird Branch Trio

This is a trio of note cards I made up quickly. I used a pretty new wood mount stamp called Bird Branchby Memory Box that I recently got from Stamper’s Dream. I think it is just so pretty, and today I used it in black as a silhouette, which is always a quick way to get some cards done. I have long loved silhouette type images. Here they are:

urban-bird-branch-group-480-wm-fr-notime.jpg

Again, I did all cards identical as I’m still in quick mode! There isn’t much to these, but I think this lovely Bird Branch image paired with SU’s Urban Garden DP produces a classy, but simple card!!! I used a grayish/silver May Arts velvet ribbon. Cardstock is White and SU’s Basic Gray andretired River Rock, and ink is Versa Fine Onyx Black. Image is cut and embossed with aLong Rectangle Nestability by Spellbinders and popped up on dimensionals.

urban-bird-branch-480-wm-notime.jpg

That’s just a quick project for today. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve already, ready or not, and I am not!!! But that’s OK. It’s time already to forget all of our to-do lists and just enjoy the next few days, celebrating the birth of baby Jesus some 2,000 years ago. May you all have a wonderful Christmas!!!

Thank You Gift Set

This is a simple design for a set of 6 thank you cards that I’ll use as a gift. Making them all exactly the same aids in speed of production. Right now I’m thinking I’ll present them in a purchased clear box, but I may make a box if I have time. If I do,I’ll post it for you to see. Here’s the set:

Quick and Easy Cheesecake

Published by notimetostamp under Recipes

I cook and bake pretty much like I stamp — quick and easy!!! This cheesecake recipe is probably my most requested recipe, and although I did share it here about a year ago, I thought I’d pass it on again. This is always my go-to desert recipe as it is, just as the title says, so quick and easy, but it is also lovely to look at topped with berries and absolutely delicious! And it requires NO baking! I’ll make a few of these for Christmas Eve.

CHEESECAKE

Make, or buy prepared, standard deep dish graham cracker crust use a larger pie pan or else it will overflow.

For filling:

  • Mix 1 envelope Knox gelatin in bowl with1/2 cup sugar.
  • Add 1 cup boiling water and stir until dissolved well, about 5 minutes.
  • In mixer, beat together 2 8-oz. packages of softened cream cheese and 1 tsp vanilla, beating well until smooth. Slowly beat in gelatin/water mixture. Pour into prepared/cooled crust.
  • Refrigerate until firm about 3 hours. Top with cherry pie filling or topping of your choice.

Sorry I have no stamped projects to post, but I will, real soon!!! I still have gift sets I want to make and many thank you notes could have been sent already if only I had them made!!! Time, time!!!! I know it is something we ALL struggle with. Hope this simple cheesecake recipe helps some of you out in the time category. Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas week!!!

Good Recipes…

Published by notimetostamp under Recipes

for busy nights. But these are also great to take along. I so enjoyed all your responses to one of the questions I posed during Stamp Simply Celebrates! Pasta certainly ruled the roost for busy night recipes, along with pizza and just about anything quick!!! Thanks so much everyone for contributing — it was fun! Here’s the postif anyone would like to read it — lots of recipes are included and I do thank you for that!!!!

Since I have no new cards to share tonight, I thought I’d share 2 recipes that are tried and true in this house. I shared this recipe for Chicken Wings last year, butsince my friends continually ask me for it, thought I’d pass it along again. And the 2nd recipe is for Crock Pot Roast Beef Au Jus — delicious!!! But we always make it out of venison (yes, we eat a lot of venison)!!! It is absolutely delicious out of either venison or beef.

These Chicken Wings are GREAT to bring to a buffet or pot luck. They are sure to please!

Chicken Wings - frozen in bags - 5 - 8# (thawed). Marinate them for 24 hours in:

  • 1 cup Soy Sauce
  • 1 cup Lemon Juice
  • 1 cup Oil

The ingredients want to separate, so mix it up once in a while. Drain. Bake at 350 for 1 hourin a single layer, uncovered, on a cookie sheet withsides. Transfer to crock pot for easy serving or a pot luck dish. Everyone is guaranteed to love them!!!

Note: 8# of wings fills my 3.5 qt. crock pot to the brim, with a few wings left over that don’t fit. And when I do 8# of wings, I make the marinade with 1.5 cups of all ingredients.

This Crock Pot Roast Beef au Jus is GREAT served on French Bread or Crusty Rolls, and you use the liquid in the crock pot as the dip — oh so yummy!!!! My guys like the dip so well, on occasion I will double the au Jusingredients just to get more of the au Jus for them!!!

Brown 3 to 4# of sirloin tip or any nice roast on stove top in a bit of oil, just to brown it up a bit. Transfer to crock pot. Slice 2 cups (about 2 medium) onions into thin rings and place on top of meat (I use more). Then add:

1 cup of coffee (a liquid cup of coffee, not the grounds - LOL)

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/2 tsp dried oregano leaves (I add more)

1/2 tsp minced fresh garlic (I use jar garlic and add more)

2 bay leaves (I use more)

Cook on low for 10-12 hours, or on high 5-6 hours, or any combination of the two. When meat is done it is super soft andfalls apart when gently pulled with a fork.

Serve on French Bread or Crusty Rolls with au Jus for dipping!!!

Again, thanks for stopping in!!!! I have more gifts to make so I hope to get some card sets up soon!!! Time will tell!!! I finished trimming the tree this evening and tried to photo it to share, but my night time photos did NOT come well. I’ll try again in the daylight tomorrow!!! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!!

Keyword ssnotime66 -There is no time limit. You can play this challenge and upload yourproject at Splitcoastand/or your Blog, anytime at all! cosmo-group-480-wm-notime.jpg

As Christmas is literally just around the corner, any cards we make at this point need to be quick - really quick — BEYOND QUICK!!! And that’s what today’s challenge is:

Create a Christmas card (or card for other event if you are done with Christmas cards) thatis SO SIMPLE you could assume that someone CASING your card COULD MAKE 6 of them in 30 minutes or less — now that HAS to be a simple card!!!! No other rules. Can’t wait to see what you all do! Please note you do NOT have to make 6 - 1 is fine!!!

Please bear with us all as we are uploading and linking tonight!

Some great samples for the Stamp Simply Challenge today can be seen on these blogs:Julie, Janine, Jennifer, Tammy, Dee, Becky, AJ,and LeAnne.

You can see all Gallery Submissions here.

What wonderful samples!!! Thank you girls!!! Much appreciated!!!

Heres myproject for todays challenge:

The group photo of my cards for todayis above. I made 7 cards todays using the punch-outs in the pack of Oh Joy Chistmas paper by Cosmo Cricket. These punchouts tend to be on the larger side, designedfor scrapping, but they are FUN to use on cards as well. All of my cards below used just one strip of DP, cut to either 1.5″ or 2″ wide, and then the punchouts, most of which are popped up on dimensionals. I added rhinestones to most, and string, a button or bow on a couple. I also added a sentiment on a couple from Many Merry Messages by SU. The paper is SU More Mustard and PTI Vintage Cream and, of course, Oh Joy by Cosmo Cricket. Here they are — fun, quick and simple.

cosmo-button-480-wm-notime.jpg

cosmo-ornament-480-wm-notime.jpg

cosmo-snowman-480-wm-notime.jpg

Now I’ll need a bit larger envelope for my snowman as his hat extends beyond the card, but it was so cute I just had to put it on him!!! Aren’t these fun!!! If you have any paper packs with punchouts I suggest you pull them out and give them a 2nd look!!!

Thanks much for stopping in. I know how incredibly busy everyone is right before Christmas, and I’m totally honored that you took the time to stop in here — thanks so much!!! Hope you are off to a great weekend ahead!!!
