I Was Cleaning… but

Published by at 11 08 pm under Announcements

but I got side-tracked. Ever happen to you? I was putting things away in my stamp room for about an hour, then took a break to go through some card boxes to see what I could find to send to Pat, The Rubber Maid, for her Ultimate Valentine Challenge — remember,Pat needs to come up with1,000 Valentines for Children’s Hospital in Detroit.

Well, you know how that goes — I pulled out one box of cards, then remembered another, and another, and another, etc., etc., etc. Eventually I had pulled out ALL the boxes of cards I had. Now let me explain – that is a LOT! Not that I made them all, but I have never thrown a card away that I received in a swap. And I used to swap with some large groups, so I had a ton of card fronts covering every occasion and every season. Well, what better place for these cards and fronts than to send them to Pat, and she was so happy to be getting them. She’ll get together with her stamping friends and turn them into full cards. Here are my pilesas I was pullingthem all out:

Pat currently needs 1,000 Valentines, but her Cards 4 Kids program needs cards all year round. And the *kids* go up to age 20, so they’re not all kids! Plus, the cards are not only given to the kids, but cards are made available for the kids to send out to others — isn’t that a wonderful gesture!!!

The purpose of this post is two-fold: #1) to let all those who have ever swapped with me know that their cards/fronts have been donated for a wonderful purpose and will be appreciated once again by these hospitalized children and their friends and family (THANK YOU!); and #2) to let you know that Pat is still working on her 1,000 Valentines, so if you can help by sending her some Valentines, just drop her a note at [email protected]and she can give you her address.

Plus, there are several different offerings of BLOG CANDY for donating Valentines! How fun!!! Check this link at The Rubber Maid to see all the Blog Candy Posts.

So, no card today, the room is still not cleaned (but I did make a little dent in it – LOL), but I do feel that I accomplished a good thing in going through all these cards, so that’s good!!! Hope you are getting something accomplished as well!!! We’ll be back tomorrow with our Stamp Simply Challenge for this week!!! Thanks much for dropping in again!!!

Bravo, Sharon! What an excellent idea! I’ve made most of my swap cards from the past into full cards and donated them to a local nursing home. I still have a few in a box, so I think I’ll take a look with those Valentines in mind. Thanks for such a fabulous idea!!

Your donation will be a big surprise for the hospital staff. What a huge stash. I am amazed at the wide variety of card designs.

I bought a new set of stamps purposely to make cards for the guys. My 13 year old daughter said don’t leave out the glitter. Her guy friends make cards and add lots of glitter even for their guy friend cards. They write “JK” inside the cards. I guess every one loves glitter.

What a wondderful thing to do! As I scan your photo, I see the word “Happy” on several of the cards. How appropriate as I’m sure this will make both those kids and the ones that support them “HAPPY”!

Wow Sharon, what a great idea! I am sure Pat is one happy Mama!
And, you will make lots of people happy with this wonderful gesture!
And, it will also help you clear out some space. (smile)

The timing of this post couldn’t have been better! I’ve been cleaning too and have come across my boxes of cards from swaps and was wondering what to do with them. I was going to ask the local nursing home, which I can still do since I have several boxes, but I can also ship some off to Cards 4 Kids. Thanks so much for spreading the word!

I loved this idea. And mine are in the mail to her as I type. My kids got involved too-and it felt so super good to be doing this for Pat(someone I don’t know) and for the kids/adults that need them.

I hope we can do this more often. -just to give to others!

Just how many cards do you have!!!? I tend to make cards as and when I need them and so never collect very many! Now that I have begun the various card challenges perhaps this will change!

How funny, I was just cleaning out my stamping supplies the last couple of days and also went thru my saved cards and card fronts. Love your idea of sending to Pat. I am off to get her address. TFS the idea.

  18. I’m so glad I read your post as I am fairly new to card making and never thought about just making the card front!

  19. Hilda says:

Hi Sharon – That’s quite the stack of cards, and a great gift to share them with Cards 4 Kids. I first read about the 1,000 card challenge on your blog, and promptly contacted Pat. I’ve been amazed to see how it has snowballed, but guess I should expect that in Michigan, eh? It’s been so much fun (not to mention rewarding) working on this project.

I know Pat will be excited to get these! This is wonderful! I’m still working on Valentines for her to use!
