JustRite Christmas Blog Hop

JustRite Blog Hop Day — LOVE these posts — always a fun day!  Today we are all featuring JustRite’s new Christmas releases, and there are a lot of them!  Please make sure to click on all the links at the end of this post — 33 links in all — LOTS of designers playing with JustRite for Christmas — fun, fun!!!  And here’s my contribution — a trio of Christmas cards that were easy to make, with a nostalgic, vintage feel:

aug-2nd-trio-520-wm-notime.jpg

I truly enjoyed every moment I spent making this trio of Christmas cards!  I used the new JustRite set called Christmas Joy that fits on the 1 3/4″ x 2 5/16″ Oval Stamper.   I loved the beautiful sentiments and images in this set, as well as the gorgeous borders, but I was just in one of those moods to play around, so I decided to pull out a new box of SU Hodgepodge Hardware I had just gotten, just to see if the sentiments would work and, much to my delight, they fit into the hardware frames just perfectly!  So, I decided to run in that direction — framed sentiments it would be!  And as I’ve said many times before, just because a stamp is in the shape of an oval or a circle, and used on an oval or a circle stamper, doesn’t necessarily mean you are bound to those shapes — with many of the JustRite stamps, the sky is the limit — just play around to expand your usage of these fun sets for Christmas!

Here’s the packaging for Christmas Joy.  You can see the fun centers and borders included, 6 of each.  On my project today I used 4 of the centers.

blessings-360w-wm-notime.jpg

This is the first card I made, framing my Blessings sentiment with the SU Hardware, resting that atop a Nestability Labels Three die cut.  What a perfect fit in the hardware!  I was pleased!!!  That’s a double bow of Ivory Silk made on the Bow Easy and the DP is by SU, Merry Moments, new for this holiday season — I love it!  The embossed borders are all with a Martha Stewart Punch.

Just a closer view of the framed sentiment.  Love how it pops when placed over the Nestie die cut.

magical-360w-wm-notime.jpg

Here’s my 2nd card.  You all know me by now — I love to take the easy way out, and one of my easy way’s out is by using pre-printed images, such as this from the Christmas Journal Note pads.  That beautiful little angel looked *magical* to me, so I thought she was the perfect image to go with this sentiment.

magical-detail-360w-notime.jpg

A closer view again, and isn’t this sentiment just a perfect fit as well for the hardware frame?  I thought so!  But if you look at the stamp below, you’ll see that there are some holly boughs above and below the sentiment.  I used the very simple technique of masking the stamp to be able to use the sentiment only, without the boughs.  This is an old trick to seasoned stampers, but if you’re new to stamping, here’s how:

mask-full-stamp-240-252.jpgmask-with-mask-240-252.jpg

Photo 1 shows how the stamp appears.  Photo 2 shows how I have *masked* off the part of the stamp that I don’t want to print, in this case, the boughs.  Post-it notes are a common thing to use as they have a sticky strip.  Personally, I use a 1.5″ tape I keep around — it sticks well and is only on the stamp momentarily so it cleans up easily.

mask-with-ink-240-252.jpgmask-ready-to-stamp-240-252.jpg

Once your stamp is masked properly, tap it on your ink pad, making sure all areas are covered with ink.   Yes, the ink gets all over your mask.  BEFORE YOU STAMP, remove the masks, as shown in Photo 2.  Now you are all set to stamp with ink ONLY where you want it.  Easy peasy, as they say!

joy-360w-wm-notime.jpg

And here’s my last card in this trio.  I used one of the centers to color, the bells, and used my Petite Circle Nesties to cut and mat it.

joy-image-detail-360-notime.jpg

The image is colored with both Copics and Spica Glitter Pens.  The bells are done with the gold Spica pen.  They truly look so nice and glittery IRL, but that is miserably lost in my photo — please just take my word for it!  This is a triple bow of Ivory Silk done on the Bow Easy.  My ribbon tails are held in place with mini glue dots.

joy-sent-detail-360-notime.jpg

And I used a square frame for the word Joy, running my ribbon through the holes of the frame, rather than attaching it with brads.  Simple and fun!  The word Joy is on a center and is surrouded by a wreath.  I masked off the wreath, just as shown above.  It took a little more masking, but still was very quick and gave me this simple little Joy that was just perfect for what I wanted.

Another idea:  Rather than masking these stamps, you could very easily use your SU markers and just color the portion of the image you want inked!  Super easy, peasy!
