Stamp Simply #153 – Pleated Ribbon
Pleated Ribbon – Pleated ribbon seems to be all the rage of late, so today we are going to make creations with pleated ribbon. You may use purchased pleated ribbon, you may pleat your own by hand or on a sewing machine or with tape. Whatever you can dream up — let’s just see some fun pleats on our projects today. Oh, and for the purpose of this challenge, we will equate gathers to pleats — either/or is fine!

And I had so much fun with this challenge that I got carried away and made 2 cards today! Though they look quite different, they are both from the same 6×6 pad of designer paper – Up, Up and Away by Kaisercraft. GREAT fall pad in subtle shades of browns and sages that I simply adore! GREAT for autumn — take a look:
I thought these fun hot air balloons from Up, Up and Away designer paper would make a cheery get well card! I used my new May Arts pleated ribbon to comply with the challenge — what fun stuff! Today was the first day that I’ve played around with it much and I’m surely loving it!!! Very LUSH!!!
I first adhered the Ringlet Trim to the Pleated Satin with Scor-Tape. I then wrapped it around my card front, joining together under the Silk Ribbon Bow, which was made on the Bow Easy. It’s fairly easy to neatly hide the seam with the pleats. My Get Well Soon is from Rose Border, a clear set by Wordsworth.
Same pad, Up, Up and Away and same stamp set, Rose Border. The upper corner is die cut with my Vintage Dies by Cuttlebug, accented with Lavender Kaiser Pearls. I used my new Primas on this one, Trellis Roses in Purple Mist and Fairytale Roses in French White –LOVE them! I have a little of my String Leaves hanging down as well.
This time I used my 3/4″ Pleated Trim in Ivory on top of my Pleated Satin (an 8″ piece), adhering the same way with Scor-Tape. This time it is not wrapped around the card front — I just folded under the edges before adhering to give it a clean, finished look. I just made the ruffled up areas with my fingers as I layed the ribbon down on the Scor-Tape — super easy. I left a flat spot to adhere my flowers, just like shown in Michelle’s tutorial linked at the top of this post. I made my Moss Silk Bow on the Bow Easy and adhered with glue. Truly a simple card to make — just playing with pretty things, which is what I LOVE to do!!!
Editing 8/21 — I apparently didn’t make it clear, so sorry — the PLEATED SATIN I am using is satin ribbon by May Arts that is pre-pleated. It comes pleated — how EASY can it get. Here’s a picture of all the colors available:
White, Teal, Ivory, Black, Pink, Burgundy
Silver, Brown, Rust, Dark Silver, Plum, Sage
1.5″ Satin Pleats – Elegant and Luxurious!

Sharon your cards are so elegant. Your ribbons and bows are so luscious looking! I haven’t tried the pleated ribbon technique yet, but with creations like this to inspire me I will be trying it out very soon. Sorry I can’t get in on this challenge though.

Thanks Sharon for a fun challenge. I used sticky strip and my stylus to pleat my ribbon. Used the new SU French Foliage stamp set that is in the Holiday Mini due out Sept. 1st.

A question… Do you mail your cards? Extra postage? Ways to protect fancy things like ribbon, larger/thick flowers?
