Prima Craftsman – Masculine Gift Hard Holder

I needed a gift card holder this week and I’ve been itching to use Prima’s masculine pad – Craftsman – so this was the perfect time.  This is the same, very simple, gift card holder I make so often, especially for the holidays and also at graduation time.  I’ll give the measurements and scoring instructions below — here it is:

Paper – Craftsman by Prima – I used the 6×6 – it’s also avaialbe in A4 (a bit larger than 8 1/2 x 11)

This is for our son who had a birthday this weekend.  He has always been a planner and a thinker, plus he’s an engineer, so I thought the light bulbs on the paper were a good idea!

The entire Craftsman Collection can be seen here.

Prima pads are a fabulous value for the price — 48 sheets per pad!  All Prima 6×6 can be seen here and all Primas A4 can be seen here.

The stamp set used was DAD by ODBD, both for the the inside and out.  This is a “guy set” that I rely on often.  I like the font, the size and the sentiments included.

The “gears” were die cut using Spellinders Sprightly Sprockets – another good thing to have on hand for guy cards.  I love this die set for the guys!   I cut the sprokects from Copper Mirror Cardstock.  The dies cut through that paper like butter and the die cuts just dropped out of the dies — that’s always nice!  And I LOVE the shine the mirror paper  adds.

Ink used:  VersaFine Onyx Black for sentiments.  For edging I had the perfect color pads — Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Fired Brick, Tea Dye and Weathered Wood — great matches to this paper pad.

Here’s the inside — again, the sentiment is from DAD by ODBD.

I used a Clear Velcro Dot for the closure.  Velcro Dots are my closures of choice for this type of project.  They are inexpensive, light weight and they work ALL the time.  Every time I post a project saying I use Velcro Dots, I gets emails from readers trying to inform me there are magnets on the market now for this type of closure.  Yes, I know, but I’ve yet to try one that I liked or that has worked as easily and efficiently as my trusty Velcro Dots!  So, maybe I’m from another generation, but I STILL like my Velcro Dots — LOL!! And YES, I do know there are magnets out there.  I actually even purchased some to list in the store, but never listed them as I was so displeased with them.  If anyone has a fabulous magnet closure out there, please let me know the brand — I’m  happy to check it out if I haven’t already.

To create this gift card holder – here’s how.

I picked up these instructions from Splitcoaststampers years ago and have just remembered them — this is so quick and easy.

Use 1/2 sheet of cardstcok – 8 1/2 x 5 1/2″.

Score in 2″ from one end and 2 1/2″ in from the other.

That gives you a 2″ flap, which you fold UP for the pocket – secure on edges with Scor Tape.

The 2 1/2″ flap you fold DOWN for the top. Decorate away and  that’s it!
