A Burlap Candle Gift

It’s that time of year when we need to start thinking about gifts.  I LOVE making little gifts and I’m sure most of you do, as well.  Today I  have a little gift project to share with you.

Last evening I decorated an inexpensive jar candle from Wal-Mart.  I like to have little gifts like this on hand during the fall.  It’s a warm and cozy little gift to give someone when you might be invited over at the last minute for coffee and pumpkin pie or even for Thanksgiving dinner.  It would also make a great Christmas gift for friends, teachers, co-workers — anyone really!  I can’t imagine anyone NOT enjoying a candle!

These are the supplies I pulled out to start my project:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I think the MOST favorite part of every project for me is pulling together the supplies I want to use.   It’s just so much fun deciding!

Here’s what I used:

Wal-Mart Candle – the labels peels off nicely  — it was about $3.50 (I think).  This is Vanilla, I used Lilac or Lavender — purplish anyway!

Burlap Fabric Roll

Burlap String by May Arts

5/8″ Cotton Stripes (on the card) by May Arts

1.5″ Cotton Stripes (on the candle) by May Arts

Faux Suede Leaves by May Arts

Linen Burlap Roses by Maya Road

Vintage Pins by Maya Road

Scor Tape (not shown)

Glue Dots and Aleene’s Fast Grab Tacky Glue

Here’s the end result:

I was pleased and it was quick and easy — this would make a nice mass-produced gift project if one needed to do that.

There are 3 roses in each Maya Road rose package, so if you were inclined, you could decorate a brown paper gift bag to coordinate with the candle and card, using that 3rd rose — that would be SO nice!  I had a notion to do that, but ran out of time last evening.

This idea could be used on so many more items than just a candle — how about a large glass jar or vase filled with potpourri?  Or if you are feeling real ambitious, how about making some throw pillows with this ribbon/rose treatment, or altering a store-bought pillow – PRETTY!  Or how about altering a plain canvas tote bag — FUN!!!  The ideas are pretty much endless!

Here’s a better look at the candle.

I wrapped the glass jar with wide Scor Tape and then just wrapped the burlap around it.

Likewise, I applied Scor Tape to my ribbon, and then just wrapped the ribbon around the jar on top of the burlap.

I took a glue dot and and squeezed it between the upper point of the leaf, just to give it a bit of a curved shape.

The leaves, rose and burlap string bow are adhered with glue.

This little gift card is 4×4 square.  The cardstock used is SU Kraft and Almost Amethyst.

The little tag on the front and the sentiment on the inside were from JustRite’s clear set, Shabby Chic Autumn Leaves.

The tag is cut with a newer Spellbinders tag set that I really like — LOVE that is has some tiny tags — Back to Basics Tags.

And here’s the card inside.

Ink used is VersaFine Onyx Black, my standby for crisp sentiments.

I took a small scrap of the burlap for the inside from the Burlap Fabric Roll. It’s adhered with Scor Tape.

And that about wraps up this project!

I’d like to show you a few things:

This is the Burlap Fabric Roll I cut my burlap from for today’s project.

You get one roll for $2.50.  It is approximately 10″ wide by 44″ long.  Lots of burlap crafting!!!

I enjoyed the combination of products I used today so much so that I wanted to show them to you in other color choices.

There are more color options for each of these products, but these were the colors that all had good matches.  They are:

Purple (that I used today), Black, Red, Pink, Burgundy

Burlap String by May Arts

5/8″ Cotton Stripes by May Arts

1.5″ Cotton Stripes by May Arts

Faux Suede Leaves by May Arts

Thank you for stopping in again  today — your visits are always appreciated!

WOW, are we getting the rain, with lightening and thunder.  I’ve lost one computer and many, many surge protectors to lightening over the years, so it makes me nervous.  I really should shut everything down here until this passes!

Have a wonderful day!

See you real soon!
