Quick and Easy Christmas Trees from Scraps!

How FUN is this idea!  I was over the moon last night when I saw the Christmas tree cards that Michelle made from scraps.  I loved them and KNEW I had to try my hand at making one, too!  Let’s begin with Michelle’s cards:

This is just a little peek.  PLEASE click into Michelle’s Blog to see the full view of this DARLING card that TOTALLY  inspired me last night!  Thank you so much, Michelle!

This is what Michelle used:

Paper:  My Mind’s Eye –  All is Bright 6×6 paper pad (see the entire All is Bright Collection here)

Stamps: Justrite clear stamp set –  Christmas Vintage Labels One

Embellishments:  Kaisercraft Yellow Rhinestones – May Arts Burlap String (available in a 10 yd bundle, sampler pack or by the full spool)

All is Bright 6×6 paper pad — FUN pad.  See the full Collection here.

I’ve used this pad a few times — here and here.  Love it!

And here’s one more Michelle did:

These trees have me absoluely giddy with delight!

As I said above, the moment I saw Michelle’s fun cards last night I KNEW I wanted to make one, too!  Does that ever happen to you?  Here’s what I came up with:

I went for a bit more elegant look and used the supplies that were still on my work table from the night before — YES, most definitely a lazy crafter here!

The paper is Kaisercraft’s latest Christmas pad – Merry and Bright.  As with all the Kaisercraft pads, it has many sheets of pretty metallic and embossed papers in it, so these pads are especially appealing to me at this time of year!

You can see the papers in this pad and my project from yesterday right here, one post down.

This shot was taken to show you how I  decorated the tree — totally fun!  A lot easier and quicker than decorating a real tree!!!

I used Kaisercraft Pearls and Bronze Rhinestones to give the tree more dimension, texture and sparkle.  But I truly debated doing the decorating as the tree was SO pretty without them, but I went ahead and decorated anyway!

Do you notice how each of the strips is outlined with gold?  Well, I just got in some new GOLD PAINTY PENS.  Here’s the story on the pens — when I try a new product I never just order things and put them in the store.  I first order a very small quantity and try them out myself, just to make sure I like them and that they are what I hoped they would be.  YES, these pens definitely passed the test!  They are by Zig and environmentally friendly.  I have listed them in the store, but I only have a handful at the moment.  I do have more on order, expected by mid-next week.

My “star” on top, which is a snowflake, was cut from a sheet in the pad with my Circle Nesties.  The pens did a GREAT job of allowing me to outline the circle — super easy, which pleased me immensely!  The star is popped up with a 3D Foam Square.

My bow is of 100% Silk Ribbon (1.25″ wide) by May Arts  in Ivory, made on the Original Bow Easy.

And here’s the inside again using my go-to sentiment set this year – Large Fancy Holiday Sentiments – a clear stamp set by JustRite.  It is stamped in VersaMark, embossed with Super Fine Gold Embossing Powder — easy, peasy!  I also have Heat Guns here if you need one. To me a Christmas card is just that much MORE Christmas-y with some gold or silver embossing!!!

As to making the tree, you truly can use scraps of whatever you have laying around, making your tree totally unique and fun.  But if you are one who likes some dimensions, these are how I cut my pieces.  I followed Michelle’s tree as a visual guideline and then came up with my own measurements.

My card is a standard 4.25 x 5.5″.

The tree stump is 1″ wide.

The  2 widest strips on the tree are 3/4″ wide.

The rest of the strips on the tree are 1/2″ wide.

The bottom strip is 3.5″ long, and each strip above is decreased by 1/2″ — so my strips are, from the bottom up:

3 .5″ long,  3″,  2.5″,  2″,  1.5″
