Victorian Tea Party Bridal Shower

Isn’t that a wonderful theme for a bridal shower!  I was asked to play around with ideas for the invitations.  I was further requested that they be FLAT for mailing, and that they be easy to reproduce in bulk.  Well, the FLAT part really gives me issues — LOL — but I hope I did OK.  Even though, in my opinion, this project begs for a gorgeous champagne silk bow and small Prima roses, I held true to the requests made.  These are flat and they are very easy to reproduce.  I also did use some older product that I know my friend (the mother of the bride), who will be making all the invitations, has on hand.

And I made 2 variations of the card.  I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the first, so I did the second.  It’s just a bit more plain with subtle variations.  Please bear with me as I show you both variations.

If you have a preference, I’d LOVE TO KNOW which one you prefer!

This is the inspiration board the bride is using for her theme and color palette.

Inspiration board from Luxur Weddings Blog.

These are just THE perfect wedding colors in my opinion — absolutely LOVE them!

Here’s what I came up with for the bridal shower invitation in keeping with the theme and color palette.

VERSION ONE

The invitation does not open.  It is a flat panel, layered, with a mini envelope adhered to the top.

The actual invitation (who, what, when, where, etc.) pulls out of the bag.

The cardstock used is SU Very Vanilla and SU Blush Blossom.

I also made a little table favor to coordinate.

The background is stamped with a JustRite background stamp, Floral Flourishes.

It is stamped with Tim Holtz Distress Ink – Tattered Rose – onto SU Blush Blossom cardstock.

I loved how that background stamp so well replicated the design in the mini bag/envelope.

The panel is edged with a Zig Gold Painty Pen.

I LOVE this Always & Forever –so beautiful!

It is from a JustRite cling stamp set – Mr. & Mrs. Vintage Labels Four.

It is embossed in gold (Super Fine Embossing Powder – Gold) and cut with Spellbinders Circle Nesties.

Elevated with 3D Foam Squares.

And the bag — oh my — lovely!!!  A NEW item by Webster’s Pages from their Modern Romance Collection.

The invitation details (computer generated) are included on the tag that pulls out of the bag.

And the Monogram “L” on top is for the bride’s first name, and it is embossed onto a tag that is supposed to resemble a tea bag tag in keeping with the theme of the shower, a Victorian Tea Party.  I used my old SU tag punches to cut those.  Sorry, but I can’t recall the proper name of them.  I also stapled the ribbon on top of the tag in keeping with the staple on a real tea bag tag.

The monogram is stamped with JustRite’s new clear monogram stamp set  – Graceful Monogram.

The ribbon used on this project is May Arts 1/2″ Sheer with Satin Edge in Antique Gold.

And here’s a quick little table favor using the same supplies.

The Crystal Clear Pillow Boxes can be found here.

The candy can be ordered in bulk from here.

The bow was made with the Original Bow Easy and glued on.

VERSION TWO

This version only has subtle changes, using all the same supplies as listed above, with one exception, so I won’t reiterate all that.  I’ll just refer to the changes made.

The biggest change is the tags/sentiments on the bag, the background sheet, and the omission of the die cut flourish in the corner.

This version is just a bit simpler, and personally, I think I like this version better.

No tea bag/monogram topper on the tag.  The round “Always & Forever” got moved up to the top of the tag.

And do you notice the background sheet appears much lighter than in the first version.  I used the same stamp and same ink, but on this version I stamped it onto a sheet of Very Vanilla; whereas in the first version it was stamped onto a sheet of Blush Blossom.

That’s another reason I prefer this version.   I like the lighter background — it’s just a bit softer — but I liked it on the Blush Blossom, too!

Happily Ever After was gold embossed on the spot left for a name or greeting on the bag.

This was from a JustRite clear set – Ever After Antique Labels One.

This stamp set has a number of different sentiments that could go there — but I liked this one.  Mr. & Mrs. was another good option.

The tag toppers are adhered to the tab in such a way that they are free on the bottom so the topper can go OVER the front of the bag.  They are only adhered right on top.

And here’s the tag pulled out.  The corners of the tag top were cut with an ancient corner punch that hasn’t been available for many, many years.

If the mother of the bride and the maid of honor elect to use these for their invitations, the text on the tag will be done in a pretty, more wedding-like scripted font, suitable to the occasion.   This was just a sample, so the text is just plain, to convey the idea.

And that does it for this project.

I’d LOVE to hear which version you prefer!

Now, let me show you some of the items used on this project.

Absolutely beautiful, and oh, so clever, Sharon. The second version is my preference – it isn’t as “busy”, and the softer colour seems more feminine. Yes, I agree, they beg for a bow, but we can’t always have our own way, can we (hehe).

  2. Peggy B says:

Both are stunning and very clever. The first version in my preference and I must admit looks fabulous without a bow. It is seems to be more elegant and personalized to me.

  3. Deb Saaranen says:

Love them both, but am much more drawn to the first…I just love monograms (they make it sooo personal!) The treat box is such a cute idea too! Both match the wedding board so well! Must have been extremely difficult not to add one of the bows you mentioned…LOL!

  4. Nancy says:

I prefer the second card because it so elegant. The first is too busy which detracts from the overall look. Both cards are lovely and I love the products used.

Both are beautiful! My personal preference is for the second. I find it to be a touch cleaner in design.

  7. Chelsea says:

It was difficult to decide – they are both lovely! I’m leaning toward the first, but I couldn’t tell you why. They are both so pretty!

  8. These are so stunning! I am partial to version two. I love the Happily Ever After along the bottom, it’s much cleaner looking. That favor box is just perfect in it’s simplicity. Great for mass production!! Your friend will just love either one!!

P.S. What a lovely inspiration board for the wedding. I wish these were around when I got married.

  9. Barb Schram says:

I LOVE these Sharon! Of course you know I’m in the wedding mode! I agree the colors are the perfect palette! And those favor boxes are best!

  10. Darlene Groseclose says:

They are both very beautiful and you can’t go wrong with either one. If I had to choose one it would be #1. Let us know which one you pick!

  11. Rebecca Ednie says:

I like version one with the background of version 2. And I’m not stuck on the corner die cut. I like the concept just not the actual shape. Just not my favourite shape. Another shape more of an actual corner would be pretty. JMHO.

  12. Kristine Vencel says:

Gorgeous, elegant, subtle! Your designs are both wonderful, but since you asked for our opinion, I will give you mine.
I love the elegant simplicity of version #2, but I do prefer the blush background paper over the white. I think the blush pulls out the deeper color in the roses on the bag. I don’t the bride’s family will be displeased with either design.
