May Arts Christmas Challenge

I was invited to play along with the May Arts Christmas Challenge — fun for sure!!!  We LOVE our May Arts Ribbon here at The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, so I’m just thrilled to be participating in their Christmas Challenge.  There are a total of 20 participants and we were all required to create a Christmas themed project using ribbons picked out by the Ribbon Lady herself, and she also provided an inspiration photo that was absolutely yummy and truly inspiring.  Here’s our inspiration:

Gorgeous, huh?

You can click into the May Arts Blog here to see all the other challenge entries.

Once you click in, you have a chance to win some ribbon — be sure to read about it!

I chose a paper collection that pulled in these colors fairly well and I tried to pull in the dots from the cupcake, the stripes from the ornament and the sparkle from the other ornament.  Here’s my project:

I made a coordinated set of 10 items:  4 cards, 3 Christmas stockings and 3 gift tags.

All projects use the same paper collection by Anna Griffin:  Christmas Kitsch.  I used the paper pad and both of the 3D sticker packages.

One card set does have a stamped sentiment, but other than that it’s just paper, stickers and ribbon.  Can’t beat that for quick and easy!

These 2 cards are my personal favorites from the entire collection.  I really love those lavish ornaments, so I went with a ribbon trim that was a bit more fussy.

I took the 1″ Tinsel Edge Sheer (red) and ran a gathering stitch down the center, just by hand, but you could use a machine, too, if yours is handy.  Once my sheer was gathered, I placed a strip of 1/8″ Scor Tape across my card, then I just worked carefully to lay the ribbon down, making sure the gathers were spaced evenly.  You have to do a bit of pre-planning to know where your sticker is going to be placed.  I didn’t want the bulk of the gathers under my sticker, so I ran the ribbon flat under the sticker area.

Once my gathered sheer was secured, I ran another stretch of 1/8″ Scor Tape across the top of the gathered sheer,  then I ran the Metallic String Ribbon (white) around the card front twice.  It stays in place perfectly as the narrow Scor Tape holds it.

Then I was set to add my 3D stickers.

The sentiment is from Large Fancy Holiday Sentiments by JustRite, stamped in VersaMark and embossed with gold embossing powder.

I thought the Joyeux Noel sentiment was just perfect with the style/images on these cards.

Love the fun 1/2″  Jumbo Pom Pom (white) trim here and WOW, was this set quick to make!

Each card has 2 stickers on it and again, the ribbon is adhered with the Scor Tape.

The card on the left is being sent as a thank you note to a local tree farm who so graciously donates a large, beautiful tree to our church each year.

I made these stockings for 3 little Sunday School girls.  I think they’ll love them.

The stockings are craft foam. I haven’t decided yet, but I may add magnets to the backs so these would become frig magnets.  They are about 6″ tall by about 5″ wide.

The stockings were sparkly already so I just added the ribbon and a sticker to each.

The ribbon on the cuff was again applied with Scor Tape.  The ribbon I used is:

1/2″ Jumbo Pom Pom trim – both red and white

Mini Pom Pom Trim – red

3/8″ Solid Stitched Center – White/red

Additionally, for the stocking ties I used:

1″ Tinsel Edge Sheer – white

Baker’s Twine – red/white

These three gift tags were fun!

My basic shape and scallop border were cut with Spellbinders Long Classic Rectangles and Long Classic Scalloped Rectangles.

It’s hard to see, but I made a tab topper using an old SU tab punch. I just stapled it on top.

I then added a variety of stickers, my 1/2″ Jumbo Pom Pom trim again, and tucked in a plain little banner so the recipient’s name could be written.

Kaisercraft Rhinestones were also used on this project.

The tag ribbon tails used here are:

3/8″ Solid Stitched Center – White/red

1/4″ Striped Chevron Twill – Red/white

Metallic String Ribbon – White

Baker’s Twine – red/white

And that about does it!  Easy-peasy as they say!

And these are all the May Arts ribbons I used on this project.

From top left to right, clockwise, they are:

3/8″ Solid Stitched Center

1″ Tinsel Sheer (the white in center is the same)

Jumbo Pom Pom Trim (both white and red)

Baker’s Twine

1/4″ Chevron Striped Twill

Metallic String Ribbon

Mini Pom Pom

All items used are available at The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, as linked.
