Masculine Happy Birthday – by Sharon Johnson
Our posts in pink related to Breast Cancer Awareness will pop up each morning this week, but evenings are game for anything! This evening I have a birthday card that I made for our oldest son. He is a mechanical engineer so I thought a theme of gears all working together would be appropriate. The layout is very simple, with all the interest coming from the gears. I used a 3D embossing folder by Spellbinders embossing copper foil for the base layer, with die cut gears layered on top. It was an easy and fun card to make and I do think it looks masculine, and that was my hope, so I’m pleased! Take a look:
Simple layout and lots of gears. A fun guy card!
This card is 6.5 x 4.5″
I embossed the full sheet of copper, but then cut and only used 1/2 of it. I have 1/2 of the embossed copper gears left for another project.
Paper: Spellbinders Craft Foil – Precious Metals (for the embossed layer)
Core’dinations ColorCore Signature Graphic 45 Lights (teal and peach)
Core’dinations Heavyweight Smooth Cardstock (white)
I sanded the copper embossed gears with steel wool.
The cardstock die cut gears are layered with 3L 3D Foam Squares.
The center copper “brad” is actually a pearl that I coated with VersaMark and copper embossed to match everything.
Embossing Folder: Spellbinders 3D M-Bossabilities – Creative Cogs
Dies: Spellbinders Sprightly Sprockets, Long Classic Rectangles LG (sentiment)
Embellishments: Melissa Frances Pearls – Pearl (I used the largest)
Tim Holtz Memo Pins – LOVE THESE – 3 colors in one package – I used the copper
Adhesives: Scor Tape, Tape Runner, 3L 3D Foam Squares
Here’s the inside. The same stamp set was used for the outside and inside. It’s a set I rely on often for masculine cards.

Masculine cards are somewhat difficult but this is fantastic. Love the colors and the gears.
