Ribbon Inspiration/Stamp Simply Style – Twill
Welcome to our regular Saturday feature of Ribbon Inspiration/Stamp Simply Style. Today we are featuring Twill, a ribbon I have always considered a work horse among ribbon. It’s been around forever, strong and reliable. My initial thoughts when it comes to using twill go towards autumn or masculine themed projects – but twill is so much more. I hope you can stick around and check out what we have to show you today.
But before we get to our twill project, I apologize for not yet announcing the winner of last week’s Ribbon Inspiration/Stamp Simply Style featuring Stripes. The week just got away on me with many unforseen complications. So without any further ado I’d like to let you know that the winner was chosen on Tuesday from Barb Schram’s Blog, and the winner chosen was
Congratulations to you, Leah. Please email me at [email protected] with your mailing address to claim your prize. Many thanks to all who played — your participation is much appreciated!
Now on to my project for today:
I made a trio of clean and simple cards using a new clear set by JustRite, Autumn Words. The moment I saw the pretty fall leaves in the set I knew I wanted to do a One Sheet Wonder — something I haven’t done in ages.
I created two mini One Sheet Wonders — more likely 1/4 Sheet Wonders! Using only a 1/4 sheet makes this go so much faster. I got all 3 of todays cards from the 1/4 sheet on the right. I cut 3 strips 1.75″ wide each. I’ll use the 1/4 sheet on the left another day. Both sheets were made using the same ink pad.
To stamp my pretty multi-colored leaves I used a Kaleidacolor Pad in Royal Satin. I’ve always enjoyed these pads for adding color to projects very quickly. I have them available in a variety of color options.
This is a birthday card using two of the two dozen or so words contained in Autumn Words. They were cut using Spellbinders Nested Pennants dies. SU’s Night of Navy is the colored cardstock used.
I used standard 5/8″ Twill in White. It is wrapped around the card front with a little Scor Tape used on the inside so it doesn’t slip. This is not a standard knot. I just crossed the tail ends over each other and then tied them with a piece of Baker’s Twine in Blueberry/White, trimming the ends of the twill neatly when I was done.
This is an all purpose card with no sentiment. I really enjoy having generic cards around — you never know when you need one. Here I circle cut a single leaf and mounted it on a square. The circle is popped up with 3D Foam Squares.
I used a small piece of twill scrap for this – just about 2 or 3″. I just tied another piece of the same Baker’s Twine around the middle of the scrap and it pulled into a little bow formation. Neatly clip the ends and done! Adhered with glue. I love the crisp white twill, but I also love the little pop of color from the Baker’s Twine. I have a large selection of colors available in the Baker’s Twine, available by the 10 yard mini spool or a large full spool.
This card is a generic card for giving during the autumn season of thanks. The Give Thanks are two more words contained in large selection of words in Autumn Words. Using a clear block with grid lines makes it very easy to line up several words in a straight line. Several of the clear blocks I have in stock have the grid lines on them.
The twill is hard to see here, but I do like the added texture and interest it gives. I have the white 5/8″ Twill under the Baker’s Twine. It just defines the Baker’s Twine a bit and adds some textural interest. It is just on the card front and is applied with Scor Tape. The Baker’s Twine wraps around the card front 5 times and is tied into a little bow, with long tails left for interest. The tiniest bit of glue hold the tails in place.
And that does it for today’s trio.
All items used are available at The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, as linked above.

Now once we are talking about Twill, let me take the liberty of showing you some older projects I’ve done with Twill.
This is a fun trio of cards using colorful paper, Cosmo Cricket’s Pixie-licious, and the 3/4″ Striped Twill. Sentiments are from I’m So Glad, a clear set by Wordsworth.
And here is that same trio of cards all boxed up, ready for gift giving. I just inserted them into an A2 Clear Box and made a quick belly band wrapped with the 3/4″ Striped Twill. This is a fun and easy little gift idea.
Here’s a another quick card using paper from A Proper Gentleman by Graphic 45 and another Wordsworth clear set, Comfort Collection. All Wordsworth stamps can be seen here. The twill is 5/8″ Twill in Champagne.
And here’s a Christmas card from last year using 3/4″ Striped Twill in Champagne, Burlap String in Natural and Just Rite’s Whimsical Christmas (currently on sale), a 2″ Round set requiring a 2″ Round Stamper. Yes, this is totally a Michelle Woerner type card – totally CASED! The paper is no longer in stock.
And here’s a little pin cushion made out of a recycled tuna-type can using 1.5″ Crochet Lace, 5/8″ Twill in Ivory and paper from A Proper Gentleman. A fabric scrap was used for the top, stuffed with polyester fiberfill.
And here’s a little sewing bucket to go along with the pin cushion. The purchased tin bucket was just decorated with the same lace and twill as the pin cushion — a really quick project!
This is a sampling of the 5/8″ Twill colors available — certainly a staple in every crafter’s workroom – priced right and SO versatile.
And this is the color selection available in the 3/4″ Striped Twill — which also happens to be today’s offering of Blog Candy. This week’s winner will receive 3 yards of each of the 11 colors of striped twill shown.
This is a Mystery Blog Candy, meaning the winner will be drawn from comments on one of today’s participating blogs, so leaving a comment on each blog will greatly increase your chances of winning, but only one comment per blog, please. The winner will be selected at 6 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, November 8 and will be posted here on my blog on Wednesday, so please check back to claim your prize if you are the lucky winner! Good luck!
