The Lord’s Prayer

This is an index card to add to my Scripture Box.  I thought the Lord’s Prayer was a perfect addition to my box.  The idea behind the Divine Design Bible Verse Challenge is to make projects containing scripture as an aid to memorizing that scripture, adding one new project each month.  Well, I’ve fallen behind, but I will get caught up!  This is the 4th index card for my Scripture Box, and though I have committed the Lord’s Prayer to memory since early childhood, I just wanted it in my box, so here is today’s index card.

Isn’t it pretty!  I just love making cards for my Scripture Box.  They are all 4 x 6.  This is the first I’ve made in a vertical orientation — the rest are all horizontal, but it’ll still store in the box horizontally.  You can see the box here, along with a tutorial on how to make it using my Scor-It.  I find these Scripture Cards very easy and relaxing to make — they are just such fun little canvases!!!  And they have a meaning, a purpose, and a home in their nice little box.  A very rewarding project!!!  I suggest you try one if you are so inclined.  You can read about the Divine Design Bible Verse Challenge here.

I used two sets relatively new to me by Our Daily Bread — The Lord’s Prayer and The Cross of Christ.  They work beautifully together — such gorgeous sets to work with.

Stamps:  The Lord’s Prayer and The Cross of Christ both by Our Daily Bread.

Paper:  SU Basic Gray, Bashful Blue, Kiwi Kiss.  Periphery DP by Basic Grey.

Ink:  SU Basic Gray (stamped off once).  Versa Fine Onyx Black.

Accessories:  SU:  Corner Rounder, Ticket Corner Punch, Round Tab Punch, Pretties Kit, Taffeta Ribbon, Glue Pen, Dazzling Diamonds, Piercer, Mat Pack, Cropadile.  Martha Stewart Leaf Punch and Bird Punch.

Faith in Action

I have fallen one month behind again on the Divine Design Bible Verse Challenge, so since the April upload is about due, thought I’d better get my March one done!    I had made a scripture box to hold my 4 x 6 index cards with verses on them.  If you missed the previous uploads and you are interested, you can click here  (and then after you click, scroll down, as this post will be at the top of the archive) to see them.   There is a tutorial there to make the box.  Anyone is welcome to join in this challenge, so please, if you are interested, just jump right in.   Anyway, here’s my index card with verse for March:

march-08-james-1-2-4-540-wm-notime.jpg

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”  James 1:2-4

This afternoon when I decided to do my scripture card, I knew exactly where I wanted to go to find a verse of hope and encouragement.  As many of you will remember, several weeks back I put out a prayer request for a 13 year old boy who had been seriously injured in a skiing accident.  He has since passed away.  During the initial days of his hospitalization, a Blog was started to share news with his family and friends.  Posts continue to be added to Kurt’s Blog, and his Mom, Anna, shares from time to time; thus, the title of this post — Faith in Action.  The verse I used above is one that Anna used in her latest post.  Anna has experienced every mother’s worst nightmare, and the world should be comforting her, but it is she who has so much to offer all of us — truly, Faith in Action.  And all by the Grace of God!

  • Stamps: Flourished Elements and Many Sentiments by Flourishes
  • Paper:  Bashful Blue, Chocolate Chip, White, Periphery 6 x 6 pad by Basic Grey, from Flourishes
  • Ink:  VersaFine Onyx Black.  Copic marker B21 to color flower.
  • Accessories:  Blue Satin Ribbon by May Art from Flourishes, Hodgepodge Hardware (copper) and Pretties Kit by SU, Corner Rounder and Round Tab Punch, computer generated sentiment.

Thank you so much for looking!!!  Hope you all have a great week ahead!!!

Index Card Box

Finally!!! I got my box made to hold the index cards I am doing for the Divine Design Bible Verse Challenge.  Now, I’m all caught up and can just post with the rest of them on the 8th of each month!!!  Here’s a photo of my index box with the 2 index cards in it that I’ve done already.

index-box-filled-540-wm-notime.jpg

This is an open box, no cover  — works perfectly to store my Bible Verses, plus it shows them off as well!!!  Wouldn’t this be just adorable done in a kitchen theme and with recipes — hhhmmm, I do have some nice kitchen stamps!!!!  Just maybe –

These index cards are 4 x 6, so my box is 6 1/4″ wide, 2 3/4″ high, and 2″ deep.  You can make it with 1 sheet of cardstock, cut to 10 1/4″ x 7 1/2″.  It is scored on the Scor-It.  The Scor-It is available through Ellen Hutson.    Here’s a picture of my template with the score marks and measurements on it:

index-box-540-wm-notime.jpg

Lay your paper up against the ruler so the longest end of the paper is along the ruler markings.  Score 2″ in from each end — very easy as you have a ruler on each side of center.  You will be left with a 6 1/4″ strip in the middle.  OK, now turn your paper so the shortest end is up against the ruler markings, and score 2 3/4″ in from each end.  You will be left with a 2″ strip in the middle.  That’s it for scoring — how simple!!!  At this point I just like to fold it on all the score lines so everything is easily defined.  Now cut on the two lines as shown in the photo, allowing your box to fold.

I used paper from a 6 x 6 pad of Periphery by Basic Grey, and being 6″ it works perfectly for this size box.  To cover the exposed sides of the box, cut 2 pieces of DP 6 x  2 1/2.  Cut 2 more pieces 2 1/2 x 1 3/4.  These are for the 2 ends.  I then DTP’d (direct to paper - apply ink to paper directly from the pad)  the edges of all 4 of those DP pieces first with ColorBox Chalk Ink in Ice Blue and then with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.  Here’s a picture of the actual box as I am decorating it:

index-box-flat-adj-540-wm-notime.jpg

Before I go any further — do you see how I’ve cut those center pieces at slight angles on the sides?  I like to do that just because it makes the box work better.  There are no edges that might bind or no edges that might stick out a tad when you go to fold and adhere it together — it will fold perfectly, no binding, nothing sticking out — guaranteed!!!

OK, the 2 sides and back are ready to be adhered to the box, but the front first needs to be punched out.  Punch the box itself, center front, with the 1 1/4″ SU punch, centered.  Then punch the DP in the same position, but with the 1 3/8″ punch — you’ll now need to DTP the edges of the DP you just punched out.  Now do any stamping you like on this DP piece.  I used Flourished Elements and Many Sentiments by Flourishes.  My Bible Verse is computer generated:  I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.  Psalm 119:11    I thought this verse was very appropriate for a box containing verses for memory.  The *Forever* in the copper label holder is also computer generated, and I thought the word *Forever* was appropriate as God’s Word is the same yesterday, today, tomorrow and Forever!  I punched two holes with the Cropadile that I ran the ribbon through.  Oh, the verse is on Paper Trey white, which I love because it *rags out* (LOL!! my own word) so easily and nicely when I want to distress and curl my edges.  There is a strip of coordinating striped paper behind it, just because it needed *something* — LOL!!! It is also adorned with a photo turn on top.  I guess that about does it!!!

  • Stamps:  Flourished Elements and Many Sentiments, both by Flourishes
  • Paper:  SU Chocolate Chip.  Periphery 6 x 6 pad by Basic Grey, from FlourishesPaper Trey White
  • Ink:  Versa Fine Onyx Black, ColorBox Chalk Ink in Ice Blue,  Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Vintage Photo.
  • Accessories:  Computer, Aged Copper Hodgepodge Hardware by SU, Cropadile for holes, Distressing Tool on Cutter Kit by SU, 1 1/4″ and 1 3/8″ round punches by SU.

These little boxes really are very easy, and FUN, to make!!!  Try one out, whether it be for Bible Verse cards, recipes, names and addresses, oh!, a listing of birthdays by month, wouldn’t that be fun  – whatever — they just look so pretty out on display!!!  If you decide to try one, please link back here so I can see it — I’d just love to see what anyone else would come up with.

Again, thanks much for looking!!!  I surely do appreciate it!!!  Tomorrow I’ll have my Stamp Simply Challenge up — and it’s a little different than usual this time, but still super simple!!!  And I’m using brand new uninked SU rubber to make my sample — can’t wait!!!  See you then!!!

February Bible Verse

I’m trying to play catch up with the Divine Design Bible Verse Challenge.  I started late and just last week did January’s verse, so this is my February verse.  This challenge challenges us to make something each month with a Bible verse on it for the purpose of memorization.  I am making index type cards and will soon make a file box to keep them in.  Many are making cards and books — whatever you want!  All are welcome to join in, and here’s the link to the challenge in the forums at SCS.  Please, check it out!   Here’s my February index card with verse:

feb-08-phil-4-13-540-wm-notime.jpg

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.   Philippians 4:13   What powerful words — and what comforting words.  And how often we are able to rely on the power of God’s word when it is committed to memory.  I am so grateful for this Bible Verse Challenge and look forward to making more index cards with longer portions of scripture that I have not yet committed to memory.  I urge anyone who is so inclined to join in — it truly will be a blessing!

My index card base measures 4 x 6.  All DP used is from a Periphery 6 x 6 pad by Basic Grey.  I have been using up scrap pieces from other projects, which works wonderfully on these simple, collage type index cards.  My entire project for the year will continue with the same papers/colors so I have a cohesive and attractive file box full of index cards once the year is complete.

My sentiment is from Elegant Inspirations, a recently retired SU set.  Gee, I hated to see that one go. I love the verses and I love the font used.  My little With Love panel was cut from a scrap, the lower rose piece is distressed on the top, and I’ve used a variety of stamps from Flourished Elements, Flourished Words and Many Sentiments, all by Flourishes.  I used the white paper sold by Paper Trey and I love it’s pure whiteness and how well it *rags out* - yes, a totally technical term!  What I mean is how easily it distresses and how easily it separates into layers so I can separate and curl them, like on the corners.  Really love the weight of this paper, too!  I’m trying to stick with my *Clean Shabby* look for this project.  I like the distressing of the sentiment panel, the DTP’ing (applying the ink directly to the paper from the ink pad)  of the DP panels, but I like to keep my white nice and fresh and clean and my base fresh and clean as well.  It’s just a look I like!!

  • Stamps:  SU retired Elegant Inspirations.  Flourished Elements, Flourished Words, and Many Sentiments, all by Flourishes
  • Paper:  SU Bashful Blue and Chocolate Chip.  Paper Trey White.  Periphery DP by Basic Grey.
  • Ink:  Versa Fine Onyx Black.  ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink in Lime Pastel, Olive Pastel, Ice Blue.  Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.
  • Accessories:  Corner Rounder, Round Tab Punch, Distressing Tool on Cutter Kit, Blue Taffeta Ribbon, Copper Brads.

If all goes well, I’ll do the file box tomorrow, but we’re also working on taxes — not so fun!

I will also post my true confessions tomorrow — I have flubbed up big time in Blogland, and my confessions are way overdue, so, in the way of an apology, I will be offering some Blog Candy, so stay tuned!!!  Thank you so much for stopping in!!!

Bible Verse Challenge

A while back I got an email from Jami inviting me to play in a Bible Verse Challenge she and several friends were doing — it sounded like such a great idea!!! It was high on my *to do * list, but I never actually got anything started on it until tonight.  The idea was that of  Lori Craig in an effort to help memorize scripture, and this is the link to the challenge in the challenge forum at SCS.   You can read all the details there, but the idea was to create a card or note or something with a Bible Verse on it, and to do one a month for the remainder of the year.   Anyone is welcome to play along,  just check out the link above.    Anyway, this is my first one and I do plan to make a file box to keep these all in as I continue to make more.  Here’s my first:

sc162-bible-ch-540-wm-notime.jpg

This is like an index card, it does not open, and I plan to make a box for all these index cards I plan to make.  The blue card base is  6 x 4, and I’ve rounded all top corners.  The DP used is all from the Periphery pack by Basic Grey — just love that stuff!!!

The Bible Verse I chose is Psalm 118:24 - This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.  I thought this would be an appropriate verse to begin with seeing as it has been in my signature line at SCS right from the beginning.  I find this verse so simply refreshing and rejuvenating.  Yes, this IS the day the Lord has made and given to us — he gives us each and every day — and for that we should be thankul, rejoice and be glad!  What a beautiful thought to have each morning as we arise — and I wanted to use this pretty Periphery sheet with the bird on the branch to signify the morning with all the birds chirping.

I did this in what I call sort of a *Clean Shabby* style.  I used Tim Holtz Distressing Inks to shabby up my edges of the DP, along with a distressing tool on the edges of the sentiment piece (which was printed on the computer); however, I kept a clean and somewhat fresh look by keeping my sentiment panel pure, clean white (by Paper Trey) and by keeping my base card a fresh and clean blue.  My blue taffeta bow is clean and fresh, too.  All stamped images are from a favorite set of mine, Flourished Elements by Flourishes, and they also carry the Periphery paper used.  I absolutely love working with these gorgeous papers that have such lovely images on them — it’s fun trying to get the printed image to work for you with your design.

  • Stamps:  Flourished Elements by Flourishes
  • Paper:  SU:  Bashful Blue, Chocolate Chip.  Paper Trey White.  Periphery DP by Basic Grey.
  • Ink:  Versa Fine Onyx Black, Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Antique Linen and Vintage Photo.
  • Accessories:  Taffeta Ribbon; Copper Hodgepodge Hardware and other unknown, Distressing Tool, 1/8″ punch (to run ribbon through), Round Tab Punch, Corner Rounder, 3/4″ Punch, Crafter’s Tool Kit.

This is the link to the gallery where all the Bible Verse Challenge uploads are.  They have some really gorgeous Bible Verse cards you might like to check out!!!

Oh, almost forgot, this layout is from this weeks Sketch Challenge at SCS — great sketch to work with!!!

Thanks so much for stopping in — truly appreciate it!!!  Be back with more Flourishes projects real soon, and hopefully a box soon, too!!!  Thanks — and have a great day!!!
