Stamp Simply #107 - ABC/123

ABC/123– Today’s challenge has to do with making letters or numbers a focal point of our project.  Steve and I are celebrating our 25th Anniversary this week, so visions of cards in a store display with 25 or 50 on them came to mind — LOL!!!  However, we have lots of options using numbers or letters as a focal point — my first thoughts go to birthday cards or monogrammed projects — the range is wide open — so have some fun getting elementary with your ABC’s and 123’s!!!

Keyword ssnotime107 - There is no time limit. You can play this challenge and upload your project at Splitcoast and/or your Blog, anytime at all. You (and that means anyone and everyone, blogger or not!) can play as many times as you like!!! The point is to keep it simple, quick and have fun!!! Please link back here.

Today begins a brand new month, so that means we have to sadly bid farewell to Charlene.  THANK YOU so much for having played with us this past month, Charlene — we loved  your work and fun spirit and hope you continue to play with us as time permits!!!  We’ll miss you!!!

And I’m thrilled to pieces to announce October’s New Guest Designer – a friend I met several years ago over at SCS, and from my neighboring State of Wisconsin — please welcome Amy Rohl, a/k/a rohla at SCS and by her Blog, Ink About Me.  I’ve always loved Amy’s clean designs and can’t WAIT to see what she does for us here.  Welcome, Amy!!!

Check out the great samples for the Stamp Simply Challenge today on the blogs of these fabulous designers:

Please bear with us all as we each upload and link on Thursday night.  Everyone should be up and set by Friday morning.

You may see all SCS Gallery Submissions here.

And here’s what I created for today:

g-wed-mono-480-wm-notime.jpg

A simply stamped monogrammed wedding card.  Not a lot of explaining needed — Bella Bleu SU DP with Very Vanilla and Kraft cardstock,  Taupe 100% Silk Ribbon (shirred in the center under monogram just by tying tightly with a 1/4″ piece of like ribbon), Damask Monogram Kit used for monogram that I chose to cut into a rectangular shape today rather than the traditional circle (this particular border lends itself very well to a rectangular shape), accented with Pearls.

Can you see the subtle pearly shimmer on the embossed upper portion? That is quickly done using Perfect Pearls — run over embossed image with Perfect Medium, brush with Pearl colored Perfect Pearls, wipe off excess with Swiffer cloth (YES, what you use for dusting).  Done!  Gorgeous effect!

As always, thank you SO much for stopping in — I truly do appreciate it.  Hope you are all off to a wonderful weekend ahead!!!  I’m going shopping, so that’s always fun!!!  See you soon!

Flower Soft Blog Hop

It’s the first of the month again, so that means another fun Flower Soft Blog Hop! Our challenge this month was to create a Halloween themed project using our favorite Flower Soft. Well, my card is more fall or autumn than it is Halloween, so in keeping with the spirit of things, I went with an orange and black color scheme!!! Take a look:

pumpkin-greetings-480-wm.jpg

Fun card to make! The white die cut accents pop off the black and the Copic colored JustRite image is accented with just a tiny bit of Flower Soft on the leaves — and oh my — how the addition of that tiny bit of Flower Soft just made the image pop and come to life — amazing. Here’s a close up of it:

pumpkin-greetings-detail-440-notime.jpg

Can you see just a tiny bit of Flower Soft on the leaf centers? I applied my Flower Soft Glue to the tiny leaves with the tip of a paper piercer and it worked great. In retrospect I wish I had taken a *before* picture without the Flower Soft so you could compare — it really adds so much. We were asked to use our favorite Flower Soft color — well, my favorite changes depending on the type of project I’m doing. Today I just had to use the Autumn Mix Flower Soft – love it for autumn themed cards. The colors are just lovely and work so well with  fall type images.

Mega JustRite Blog Hop

Today begins the Mega JustRite Font Blog Hop and with 54 designers sharing ideas it continues through tomorrow as well.  Be sure to read through to the end of my  post.  Tons of links are shared as well as info on the week long Font Sale at JustRite and some fun Blog Candy offerings.  Now, on to my project.  I have a lot of photos, so I’ll be brief with my words.

font-red-480-462-wm-notime.jpg

A trio of Christmas cards — Stamped Simply — using both Times New Roman Uppercase Font and Times New Roman Lowercase Font on the Harmony Rectangle Stampers.  I feel it’s best to keep projects simple for the holidays.  These cards were a pleasure and a breeze to make.  What a feeling of accomplishment when they go together so quickly.

product-480.jpg

Here’s a visual of what I used — Times New Roman Font Uppercase and Lowercase on the Harmony Rectangle Stampers.  I’m loving these 2 sentiments for this style of Christmas card, so I’m sure I’ll be leaving the letters in tact for some time yet.  I’m blessed to have several stampers — something you may want to consider, too, especially now when they are on sale!

top-bow-480-374-wm-notime.jpg

My sentiment is gold embossed, outlined with a gold leaf pen (I actually use a Calligraphy Pen by Marvy Uchida — it’s my latest favorite gold pen — the tip is a bit smaller than some).  My sentiment is then nestled between rows of double embossed lines.

noel-360-453-wm-notime.jpg

A similar card in a vertical orientation.  Note here how the sentiment is only adhered on the ends, allowing it to rise up over the ribbon — kind of a nice touch, I thought!  Kaiser rhinestones are used to add some glitz.  My Red 100% Silk Ribbon by May Arts is tied in my favorite fun and flirty fashion with the Bow Easy.  You can read this post to see how it is done.

bottom-bow-4809-375-wm-notime.jpg

This card is the same as the first, just reversed with the ribbon at the bottom.  Can you see how I’ve lined the insides of the cards in pure white? I like an inside that is easy to write on and also easy to read.   The card itself is Gold Brushed Metallic paper.

scor-it-mini-440.jpg

To emboss the double lines in my cards today, I used my Scor-It Mini.  I left a 1″ space for my sentiment to be placed and my double lines are 1/4″ apart.  If you use a Scor-It, using the Perga Soft on your scoring tool tip helps the tool to glide over your paper.  It feels like you are gliding over butter — totally effortless.

mc-closeup-440-268.jpg

I have a hard time taking pictures to get the embossed lines to show up as they do IRL.  That’s what I’m trying to show you here.  I really like the depth of the embossing when using a Scor-It.

jn-closeup-360w.jpg

Here’s a nice closeup of the heat embossed sentiment, lined with gold leaf pen.  A couple of tips for you:

1)  People think they can’t draw a straight line so they couldn’t use a gold leaf pen. WRONG!  The pen tips are soft, like a marker.  You push the tip into the paper, starting at one corner, and draw the pen towards you with just a tiny bit of pressure. The paper forms sort of a groove in the tip and the line comes perfectly straight.  It truly could not be more simple — if you haven’t done this, give it a try.  An easy way to dress up a simple project.

2)  Another common question — how do you get the sentiment so straight on that small piece of paper.  Well, I don’t — LOL!!! I don’t stamp on a small piece.  I stamp on at least a 1/4 sheet of paper.  Once your stamper is loaded with letters and ready to go, line up the bottom edge of the Rectangle Wood Stamper with the bottom edge of the paper so it’s nice and straight and stamp there.  Now your sentiment will be straight with the bottom of the paper, so now you can easily trim it down to size on your paper cutter.  If you were using Nesties to cut your sentiment, then it would be of no concern — but today I was cutting my sentiments myself on the paper cutter.

Reflecting…on Weddings and such

We’ve received an unusual number of wedding invitations this summer, far more than normal.  But I guess it’s just the cycle.  25 years ago (in October) we got married, and though we were a bit older than most to be newly married, we shared those years of baby showers, birthing stories and years of birthday parties with all of our friends — gazillions of birthday parties.  They soon turned into graduation parties that seem to have lasted for years.  And now — weddings.  And though I am so happy for each and every couple we have, or will, celebrate with this summer, it saddens my heart and brings a tear to my eye.  Where HAVE those years gone?  We were once the brides and grooms, the young parents, the ones running PTA and bake sales and coaching Little League, encouraging our youngsters to read those 100 books for the year-end T-shirt, and on, and on, and on.  And now we’re going to weddings, to their weddings — our neighbor girl, our best friends sons, nieces and nephews.  The cycle has come full circle, and now we can sit back and watch it start all over again, praying to God that he’ll Bless this generation as much as he has ours.  And my tears turn to a smile — because that’s just the way it is –

______________________________

And now, with a dry eye, let’s take a look at the formal wedding card I made for this weekend’s wedding, along with a photo tutorial for my fun and flirty bow.  Here’s the card:

bow-tut-monogra-360w-wm-notime.jpg

As expected, a simple card — black and white, Cuttlebug embossing, single initial monogram for the newlyweds and my fun and flirty black silk ribbon treatment.  I’ve received a lot of emails asking how I do this.  I have explained it previously, but never with photos, so this time I’ll try adding photos and see if that helps. It’s really so easy:

bow-tut-3-pieces-480-notime.jpg

These are the pieces I start with:  a black top fold card, my white panel and my monogram.

bow-tut-tape-front-240-300-notime.jpgbow-tut-tape-back-240-300-notime.jpg

Photo 1 - Using a good heavy double sided tape, adhere the ribbon on the card front so it will be UNDER the monogram.

Photo 2 - Run the ribbon up the card front and secure on card back with the same type of tape.

bow-tut-apply-mono-240-300-notime.jpgbow-tut-run-narrow-240-300-notime.jpg

Photo 1 - Going back to the card front, adhere your monogram using SU Dimensionals

Photo 2 - Using a 1/4″ width of matching silk ribbon, run it UNDER the wide ribbon, as shown.

bow-tut-tie-narrow-240-300-notime.jpgbow-tut-bow-easy-240-300-notime.jpg

Photo 1 - It’s hard to see as the ribbon is so black, but I just drew the ribbon tails up and tied into a tight knot, then cutting my ends short and turning that ribbon so the tails end up UNDER the wide ribbon.  It helps to use tweezers to do this.

Photo 2 — Make a bow on the Bow Easy

Note:  If you are good at bow tying - you can skip the narrow ribbon and the Bow Easy — just run another length of wide silk under the wide silk strip attached to the card, draw up your tails and tie your bow.

bow-tut-monogra-360w-wm-notime.jpg

And here’s another look at the final result.  My bow is glued on with Aleene’s Fast Grab Tacky Glue (very cheap/Wal-Mart). I added clear rhinestones to the Damask monogram image.   A quick and simple card with a bit of a formal look!

The following items to make this card are available in the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store:

CAS Masculine Sympathy

I often think clean and simple is the way to go with sympathy cards, and even moreso when it needs to be a masculine sympathy card.  That’s what I did here today — clean and simple, black and white.

cas-massymp-480-wm-notime.jpg

This card is a favorite size of mine of late - 5.25″ x 7.75″.  I have envelopes to fit, so all is well!  I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder and added just one tiny black pearl for the bird’s eye.  My sentiment is from the Thinking of You set by JustRite, which is a sympathy set I just love and I know I’ll get tons of use out of it for years to come — and that’s exactly why I chose to carry it in the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store — it’s a keeper in my book!  I stamped my image with Versa Fine Onyx Black ink, which has long been my favorite ink for crisp, true black images.  I cut the image with my Classic Oval Nestabilites by Spellbinders.  My bottom border is THE most sumptuous Velvet Zig Zag ribbon by May Arts — just love it — another new find and now included in the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store.

Shopping:

The Stamp Simply Ribon Store carries these items to make this card:  Thinking of You Set, 2 1/4″ x 3 1/16″ Oval Stamper, both by JustRite, Versa Fine Onyx Black Ink, May Arts Black Zig Zag Ribbon, Scor-It.

Thank you so much for stopping in today.  We have out of town relatives visiting and have been busy with them.  It’s so fun to see everyone, and we are enjoying nice warm summer weather as well!  Hope you are enjoying some pleasant summer weather and fun activities as well!!!  See you soon!!!

Buttons and Bows for Baby Boys

Today I have a Buttons and Bows card for a baby boy!  And even with buttons and bows it does look boyish enough — for a newborn anyway!   The card is quite simple, using a Cuttlebug embossing folder for the background and machine stitching on the focal image.

eli-anderw-480-wm-notime.jpg

I made this for our newest great-nephew, Eli Andrew, who came into the world on July 1.  We hope to see him this weekend!  The image is from the Baby Boy Cotton Scraps, cut with Fiskars Pinking Sheers, matted onto cardstock which is stitched at the sewing machine.  The Taupe Silk Ribbon is a good match to the SU Close to Cocoa cardstock and the bow is made with the Bow Easy.

eli-andrew-detail-386-notime.jpg

A fun and quick way to prepare a focal image panel at the sewing machine.  It is elevated on foam mounting tape.  The button is threaded with Ivory Jute String.

Stamps:  None

Paper:  SU Soft Sky, Close to Cocoa; PTI Vintage Cream

Ink:  ColorBox Chalk Creamy Brown

Accessories:  Baby Boy Cotton Scraps, 1.25″ and 1/4″ Silk Taupe Ribbon, Bow Easy, Ivory String, Cuttlebug and Embossing Folder, Pinking Shears, Button, Sewing Machine and Thread, Aleene’s Fast Grab Tacky Glue, Mounting Tape, Glue Glider (from Joan’s Garden).

Shopping:  The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store has the Cotton Scraps, Pinking Shears, Silk Ribbon, String and Bow Easy.

I’m so glad you stopped in again today!  Next up is our Stamp Simply Challenge for the week, and this week proves to be a fun one, so please do try to  check back in late Thursday night or Friday if you can!!! Thanks much — and have a GREAT day!

Altered Valentine Tin

Today’s Altered Valentine Tin coordinates with the Valentine Accordion Card I uploaded yesterday. Here’s the completed tin, with instructions to follow:

val-can-overview-480-wm-notime.jpg

This was a fun recycling project as I used a tube shaped tin that had cookies in it. Here’s the before shot:

val-can-bare-400-notime.jpg

I’m not including any measurements for this project as they will be different for each can you use, but the first thing I did was to determine the size of my base red paper, remembering that I need it to be wider than the measurement around the can as I plan to score it to create embossed lines and when we score a lot it eats up length. My can was about 10″ around, so I left my paper at the 11″ length.

val-can-score-420-wm-notime.jpg

I used my Scor-It to create the embossed lines in my paper, scoring every 1/2″. I love adding these embossed lines to the base paper on the can — it really just adds a bit of richness that I love. And when you score thepaper repeatedly like this, it takes on a natural rounded shaping, making it so easy to wrap it around the can. Here’s an older photo of a sheet scored on my Scor-It from another similar project:

button-can-before-and-paper-scored-360-notime.jpg

Once my base paper is scored I adhere it around the can using red sticky tape. And then it is just a matter of making my focal image, my topper, determing what ribbons, etc. I want to use to pretty it all up!!! I’ll take it section by section.

val-can-stamps-420.jpg

I used stamps by JustRite for my focal image and my can topper. The Harmony Classic Circle Stamper III Ensemble was used for the focal image on the can front. And notice how this is the largest of the round stmapers, over 3″. Well, you can look below and see that my focal image is oval shaped, not round. No problem — just stamp the center image ONLY onto cardstock and then cut out in any shape you desire. I thought the oval suited this image well and also suited my project. Just wanted to share that versatility tip with you! Take a look:

val-can-face-closeup-400-wm-notime.jpg

Doesn’t it make a perfect oval? I thought so! I used my Petite Oval Nestabilites to cut, mat and frame this Just Rite image and further added a few Kaiser pearls — fun!! The can is also wrapped with a layer of white, thenmy Bella Rose DP, and then mywide checked ribbon by May Arts. After adhering the image, I then attached a sheer ribbon bow with a glue dot. I wrapped the very bottom of the can with the red sticky tape and adhered some velvet ribbon to finish off the bottom! Here’s a look at the upper can:

val-can-upper-lace-closeup-400-wm-notime.jpg

This was a great can with a nice lid that slips on — love when I find those! I made the white lacey strip with my Martha Stewart Lace Punch. After adhering it over the red, it just looked a bit bare, so I added a band of red velvet and it seemed to do the trick. As for the lid, the side is also wrapped with the red velvet and a topper was made and adhered. Take a look:

val-can-top-400-wm-notime.jpg

Just simple layers stamped using my Harmony Classic Circle Stamper II Ensembleby JustRite. I stamped the center (With Love) and the border (hearts) in two differnet applications and then cut them with my Petite Circle Nestabilities and layer them to form my topper. The top 2 layers are up on SU Dimensionals. And here’s a view of the back of the can:

val-can-back-480-wm-notime.jpg

My bows, or knots, are all staggered intentionally, just for interest. There is red sticky tape under the velvet and Glue Glider tape under the checked ribbon so everything is nice and snug. With so many layers on this can there are many overlap seams on the back. I was just trying to pretty it up and take away from all those seams. And don’t the embossed lines add a nice touch! Here’s a pic of this altered can along with the Valentine Accordion Card I made yesterday.

val-can-acc-group-of-2-480-wm-notime.jpg

What a fun Valentine card and little treat box! Hope the recipient likes it!!! A full tutorial on the Valentine Accordion Card can be seen here.

Stamps: Harmony Classic Circle Stamper III Ensemble and Harmony Classic Circle Stamper II Ensemble, both by JustRite

Paper: PTI White; SU Real Red, Pink Pirouette, Bella Rose DP

Ink: Versa Fine Onyx Black

Accessories: Scor-It, Petite Circle and Petite Oval Nestabilities by Spellbinders, Martha Stewart Lace Punch, Piercer and Mat Pack by SU, Kaiser Rhinestones, May Arts Ribbons, Red Sticky Tape, Glue Glider, SU Dimensionals, Zots

You can read about the Scor-It at the Scor-It site, but you do need to locate a retailer to purchase. A large list of retailers is available on the Scor-It site, but I know Joan over at Joans Gardenhas listed the Scor-It, so you may want to check it out. She always has fun things to share! She has the Glue Glider andKaiser Pearlsup today, too! I know Marcos Paper also always has a good supply of Scor-Its on hand and thats another great site to shop!!!

Thank you so much for the time you spent here today — so much appreciated!!! I still am working on Valentine themed projects this week, so there’s more in store!!! Hope you can stop back in!!! Hope your week is going well!!!

red-mirri-group-480-wm-framed-notime.jpg

I played in Jennifer’s Challenge today (see above) to make some quick cards. Just my style! Well, and what would be quicker than to use things that are laying out on your table from yesterday’s project - and that is just what I did — I used up some scraps of the red Mirri Card from Marco’s Paper — PLUS, I also employed the use of many tools. Tools always make for fast production!!!

red-mirri-labels-1-420-wm-notime.jpg

This little card was made with the 2 largest of the Labels 1 Nestabilites by Spellbinders. The card itself is cut of Whisper White, the red Mirri Card is also cut and embossed with the same die and adhered to the card front. Another white layer with the Nesties, then my ornament which was done with a Cuttlebug Ornament Die and Folder. Tie on a ribbon, pop it up on Dimensionals and done!!! Quick and easy! Editing to add: People are asking — I got the die and folder as a set from Jacksonbelle Embellishments.

red-mirri-brackets-480-wm-notime.jpg

Again, the same ornament. This time I used a scrap strip of red Mirri Card on the bottom, used even smaller scraps to make the corner brackets with a Cuttlebug die, and matted it with a sheet of red Mirri Card. Another quick one!

red-mirri-scallop-4280-wm-notime.jpg

Remember the coffee bag I decorated here? Well the red Mirri you are seeing here is the negative piece left after cutting the scallop for the coffee bag linked above. It made me feel good to use up that piece. I used an Anna Griffin Ornamental Bracket Punch on the lower corners and just adhered it to the white cardstock base, added my ornament with ribbon and again, done!!! A very quick trio to make!!! LOVED this challenge!!!

And that’s it for today! Once again, thank YOU so much for taking the time to stop in - MUCH APPRECIATED!!! Hope to see you again tomorrow!

And our winner is Pam! Congrats! Pam!!! Here’s what she had to say:

Pam in Ar.

What beautiful cardsIm going to have to get some of that paper!
Would love the chance to win the new SU set

Pink Christmas Classics

A pink Christmas card — that looks more like a baby card!!! Oh well, let’s just say I killed two birds with one stone — a Christmas card and an idea for a baby card — LOL!!! I made this card for today’s Featured Stamper Challengeat SCS, and today’s Featured Stamper is Wendybell — LOVE her work!!! This is the card I cased. Here’s mine:

AS you can see, what I took from Wendybell’s card was the hanging element and the fact that it was a basically white card. I changed colors, images, added a sentiment, embossing and a ribbon. I really do like this card and I will try it again in other colors. The ornaments are in my new SU set, Christmas Classics. This is my first test run with it and I think I’m going to like it! The ornaments are stamped on the white in black ink and colored with pink. They are stamped again on a scrap piece of pink, black embossed, then cut out and mounted onto the card with dimensionals. I drew the black strings in with my SU Black Journaler.

I wanted to show you this close up as it is a detail I really love. I do it often, and very often it just doesn’t show up on my photos.I haveembossed lines above and below the ribbon. I do this using my Scor-It Mini. It just takes a minute and I think it adds so much. I keep my Mini right where I work so I don’t even have to get up and go to my counter where I keep my other tools, so it’s really handy. Just wanted to show you!

Stamps: Christmas Classics, Many Merry Messages both by SU

Paper: Whisper White, Pink Pirouette by SU

Ink: Black Stazon, Versa Mark, Pretty in Pink Marker, Black Journaler, all SU

That’s it for tonight — a short post again. I’m working on a fun project that may be ready for a Monday night upload — hoping so — it’s a really fun girlfriend gift!!! And as I said before, I will continue working on quick and flat Christmas cards and post those regularly!!! Hope you had a great weekend. We have several inches of snow on the ground. Still hoping it melts, and I do think it will!!! The eternal optimist!!! See you soon!!! Thanks for coming!!!

Oh, almost forgot — those of you who subscribe with Feedblitz — they have not been picking up all my posts — I know they missed one or two this week and they missed several about two weeks ago. I find it very frustrating, but I can’t seem to get it fixed. Just letting you know that you are NOT getting all the updates through Feedblitz of late - I am posting 5/6 times a week — just so you know!!! And THANK YOU so much for reading and checking!!! I truly do appreciate it!!!

Double Embossed Sympathy

This sympathy card uses 2 embossing folders, theCuttlebug and some new cardstock. This card was made with inspiration from today’s Inspiration Challengeat SCS. The work of Don Li-Legerwas showcased, and rather than take any specific piece, I took inspiration from his overall use of square and rectangular shapes, the delicate florals he incorporates in his work, and his often used rusty type tones with a POP of blue that is in a great majority of his pieces. Here’s the my card.

This is a large card, measuring7.75″ x 5.25″. I used one large and one small embossing folder with SU’s retired Soft Sky paper. And for the card base I used a paper new to me.It is a double sided paper (a different color on each side) that is textured quite beautifully. Made by WorldWin, it is called Double Mates. This particular sheet is kind of a soft peach on one side and a rusty/coppery color on the other, called Desert Dune. It is fairly heavy at 90#. I really loved being able to accent my card with the peach color on the outside, then to open the card and have all the peach revealed on the inside. Really, quite a lovely feature. The perimeter ofthe blue panelsare outined witha copper leaf pen. TheWith Sympathy iscopper embossed. Here’s the inside.
