Stamp Simply #99 - That’s What Friends are For

Today’s challenge is simple — make a card for a friend, for ANY occasion, just make sure the word *friend* appears somewhere on the card front.  There are so many fun friend sentiments out there — these will be fun cards to check out!  If you don’t happen to have any friend sentiments, you could even hand write friend on a little tag to hang — whatever works — let’s just get very *friendly* today — LOL!!!  Have fun with this!

Keyword ssnotime99 - There is no time limit. You can play this challenge and upload your project at Splitcoast and/or your Blog, anytime at all. You (and that means anyone and everyone, blogger or not!) can play as many times as you like!!! The point is to keep it simple, quick and have fun!!! Please link back here.

Today brings a new month of challenges and that means we have to say goodbye to Rose Ann Reynolds, Paper Delightz,  our July Guest Designer.  It’s been so fun having you, Rose Ann!  We have all LOVED your creations as well as your company.  But what tells me you just may be back next week?????  Stay tuned folks — yes, Rose Ann just MAY be back next week!

And with the new month of August unfolding before us, we welcome probably our FUNNIEST Guest Designer ever!  And I say that with total adoration for Pat Adam, The Rubber Maid.  I love her beautiful creations and I know you will, too, BUT I must tell you — if you are one to look at pictures and not read text, you will be missing a TON of fun over at The Rubber Maid with each and every post.  Take a moment to read, and you’ll surely leave smiling!!! And, for those of you who may not know, Pat is Julie’s Mom!  What a duo!  Welcome, Pat!!!

The Stamp Simply Challenge turns 100 next week, so you know what we all like to do when there is cause to celebrate — WE CELEBRATE!!!!  Be sure to tune in next week for ssnotime100 and LOTS OF FUN!!!

And here is my friendly creation for today:

cherries-433-480-wm-wblock-notime.jpg

Simple, fun!  I have been totally smitten with cards I’ve been seeing in galleries and on blogs of late done with a new set by Papertrey Ink called Everyday Button Bits.  Totally CUTE set!!! Well, I don’t have the set, but I wanted the look, so figured I could do something similar with what I had on hand, and Tart and Tangy by SU immediately came to mind.  And I’m sure we all have many sets we could use in a similar fashion.  I went for a clean and simple look so my button cherries could take center stage.

cherries-detail-360-notime.jpg

My buttons are from the Button Bottles I carry in the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store (cute bottles!) and they are sewn onto the white panel.   I lay my buttons where I want them and then punch holes with a piercer through the button holes.  They then sew on like a breeze.  I colored the stem only on the rubber with an SU marker.  Friends was cut with a Tag Nestability.  My ribbon on the tag is tied at the base with red Jute String I also carry in the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store.

cherries-ribbon-detail-360-notime.jpg

This is a simple and fun ribbon treatment.  I just adhered the wide gingham on the back of the black panel with a heavy double sided tape.  I then ran the narrower gingham under the wide, pulled it up and tied into a little bow.  I then stuck a glue dot under the bow so it would stay to the side where I wanted it.  To me gingham says “summer” — summer, cherries and friends — what could be better!

Blue Awning Bonjour

I just had to pull out Carte Postale after the card I made yesterday — it reminded me SO of cards I did when Carte Postale was new and hot. It’s still HOT to me — probably my most favorite set of all time. And this card today qualifies for 2 challenges — today’s Sketch Challengeat SCS, and for this month’s Dirty Girl Challenge due on the 20th — I’m just a few days late there — LOL!!! That challenge required us to use our favorite things. Well, Carte Postale has always been my FAV stamp set, and silk ribbonis my current FAV embellishment — just can’t get enough of it! You may view all the other Dirty Girl (current and alumni) uploads here. Here’s my card:

sc225-blue-awning-bonjour-480-wm-notime.jpg

I’m really happy with it! And today I pulled out my Aged Copper Hodgepodge Hardware and my SU Small Oval Punch. Let me tell you, there is a lot to be said for how simple SU makes it — very quick to do and LOVE the look of the HPH. I also love the rich vintage look achieved with the Blue Awning DP by K & Co. I picked up at Michaels — great paper!!!

sc225-blue-awning-bonjour-bow-440-wm-notime.jpg

I wanted to show you this super simple bow to make. I used the 100% Silk by May Arts that I carry in the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store. This is such an easy bow treatment. I just ran a length of the ribbon around the upper panel of the card and adhered it with sticky tape on the back, then adhered my panel to the card. Then I took another length of the same ribbon and slipped it under the ribbon strip and tied a knot and trimmed my ends at angles — that’s it! This silk ribbon is a dream to work with — you can twist it, pull it, knot it, unknot it, wrinkle it, whatever you need to do to get it right — and when all is said and done, it looks like a million bucks — ALWAYS!!! I am so hooked on this silk I just can’t get enough of it — and sorry if I am boring you of late by using so much silk, but I just have to — LOL!!!!

Oops, almost forgot — there is a little boo-boo on that bow I wanted to point out so you don’t do the same thing. I didn’t even notice it IRL until I saw this blown up photo — but glad I spotted it. See on top of the card, left of the ribbon, the green matting paper is torn? That happened because it was pulled too tightly when I attached the ribbon on the back — I should have left just a tad of slack so that when the ribbon shirred up when I attached the bow piece it would have enough room and not pull so tight — so just watch that if you try this bow!

sc225-blue-awning-bonjour-hph-440-wm-notime.jpg

I haven’t used my HPH for so long and I love it — I will be keeping it out now so I remember to start using it again! Here I used the 1/4″ silk ribbon to run through the holes in the hardware — simple treatment that softens and dresses up this rather masculine hardware.

Stamps: Carte Postale by SU

Paper: PTI Vintage Cream, Prism Spring Willow Dark and Mystic Dark, Blue Awning DP by K & Co.

Ink: Night of Navy and ColorBox Chalk Creamy Brown

Accessories: 1.25 inch and 1/4 inch Silk Ribbon by May Arts from the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, SU Aged Copper Hodgepodge Hardware, Kaiser Pearls, Glue Glider, Mounting Squares

Thank you so much for stopping in once again — I truly love when you do! We’re still getting a light snowfall, but it is supposed to hit the 40’s today and the 60’s tomorrow — I’m hoping so! Hope your day is going well — see you soon!

Pink Silk Thanks

Pinks and grays — you can never go wrong with that combo! So, of course, I had to play the Color Challengetoday at SCS calling for Pink Pirouette, Rose Red and Basic Gray. I did add some River Rock, which I’m considering an allowed neutral for today — LOL!!! My card just called for the addition ofRiver Rock and whenever it comes down to sticking tight to the challenge rules or doing what needs to be done to make my project its best, I always opt to stretch the rules a bit and do what’s best for my project. In that respect I am probably a very poor challenge player, but nonetheless, I love to play them (and I haven’t been kicked out yet - LOL!). Here’s my card:

cc215-pink-silk-thanks-480-wm-notime.jpg

I’m a happy camper today, I love this card, River Rock and all!!! I’ve done cards before where I use the small dessert bowl to my Corelle set to trace a circle and then just cut it out with scissors. It’s a perfect 5.5″ circle — YAY for Corelle!!! If you sponge the edges of your circle, even if you have a bit of inconsistency in your hand cutting, no one will ever see it! This card is basically very simple, using DP, one single focal image and adding die cuts or punch outs as embellishments along with a wide silk ribbon (from the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store). My card is 5.5″ square.

cc215-pink-silk-thanks-detail-440-wm-notime.jpg

Can you see why I needed to add the River Rock? There’s just a touch of that color in the DP (Perhaps by Basic Grey) and adding it just brought the card to life - I HAD to do it! Carte Postale by SU has long been my FAV stamp set of all time, but I must say, I am really enjoying the current Friends 24-7 almost as much!

Stamps: Friends 24-7 and Thank You Kindly, both by SU

Paper: PTI White, SU Pink Pirouette and River Rock, Perhaps DP by Basic Grey

Ink: Versa Fine Onyx Black, ColorBox Chalk Pink Pastel

Accessories: Wide Silk Ribbon by May Arts from the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store; Taffeta by SU; Classic Rectangle Nestabilities, Floral Accent Shapeabilities, Tags Trio, all by Spellbinders; Martha Stewart Bird Punch; Kaiser Pearls and Rhinestones; Mounting Squares, Glue Glider, Corelle Bowl.

I’m so glad you stopped in again today. And we DID get our snow - LOTS of it - heavy and wet! School was cancelled yesterday at noon and there is no school today. We have reports of reaching 60 degreesbyThursday– I am keeping my fingers crossed — LOL!!! My tulip leaves were barely poking out of the ground and now they are covered deeply in snow — hope they survive!!! I think they will!!! Wishing you a wonderful week — see you soon!

CAS Monochromatic Sketch

Today’s card used the Clean and Simple Challengeat SCS to make a monochromatic card, and I thoughttoday’s Sketch Challengewas a perfect compliment to a CAS creation, so I combined the two to create a very quick and easy card. Here it is:

cas10sc224-pink-480-wm-notime.jpg

Pink was my color of choice and we were allowed white or ivory. I used Friends 24-7 by SU and their Raspberry Tart DP. The ribbon is my 1.25″ Silk from the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store. Not much to say — a simple little card that went together quickly!

Stamps: Friend 24-7 by SU

Paper: PTI White, SU Pretty in Pink and Raspberry Tart DP

Ink: Versa Fine Onyx Black and SU Pretty in Pink

Accessories: Silk Ribbon from the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, Petite Circle and Classic Rectangle Nestabilities by Spellbinders, Kaiser Rhinestones, Glue Glider, SU Dimensionals.

Shopping:

The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store carries this silk and other May Arts Ribbons.

Joan’s Garden carries products used by Spellbinders, Kaiser and the Glue Glider.

I’m so glad you stopped in today. We had a truly beautiful day today — sunny, breezy and about 60 degrees. Hoping for more days like this!!! Hope you are enjoying beautiful spring weather, wherever you might be!!! Take care — see you soon!!!

Stamp Simply #80 - Let’s Forget the Rules!

Keyword ssnotime80 -There is no time limit. You can play this challenge and upload yourproject at Splitcoastand/or your Blog, anytime at all! You (and that means anyone and everyone, blogger or not!)can play as many times as you like!!! The point is to keep it simple, quick and have fun!!! Please link back here.

Let’s Forget the Rules! Do you remember when we were kids (at least when I was a kid!!) we were taught not to mix patterns when we dress ourselves. I guess styles must have been rather bland back then — LOL!!! We would never wear a plaid skirt (remember those red wool plaid skirts?) with a printed blouse, or a striped jumper with a polka dotted blouse. We just DID NOT do it back then!!! Oh, but look at the fun we have today with patterned paper — Mix and Match — anything goes!!! And I love it!!! So today we are going to use EITHER stripes or dots and mix them with any other print or pattern you so desire! Or use the stripes and dots together if you like. You may use patterned paper or you may stamp your prints/patterns. Just make sure you use EITHER stripes or dots, or both!!! I LOVE both stripes and dots. And today you get bonus points if you can use 3 different prints together!!! Forget those old rules, let loose and have fun!!!

What wonderful samples!!! Thank you girls!!! Much appreciated!!!

Heres my card for today where I combined 3 different prints:

80-mixed-prints-480-wm-notime.jpg

I can never second guess the DT girls or any of the challenge players, but today if I had to guess, my guess would be that we’d get some cards a bit on the wild side with pattern and color — time will tell!!! So, with that thought in mind, I intentionally went mellow, combining both stripes and dots from the So Saffron Prints DP pack by SU. I then added a gingham check to the mix with 7/8″ wide May Arts gingham from My Ribbon Saleabove. In all honesty, this matched much better in the hollows of my basement stamp room tonight - and it nowlooks totally different under the bright lights of my photo tent — oh well, that happens - LOL!!! I still like it!!! This gingham is so soft, silky and pliable — I just love it!!! LOVE touching it!!! My image is Copic colored and I’m liking the combination of So Saffron and Pink Pirouette. Just a simple card - hope you like it!

Stamps: Both by SU: Friends 24-7 for image; Birds on a Branch for sentiment

Paper: SU: White, Pink Pirouette, So Saffron c/s and Prints DP

Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black for image; Versa Fine Onyx Black for sentiment; Copics in G40, G63, RV11, YR21.

Accessories: May Arts Gingham from My Ribbon Sale, Long Rectangle Nestabilities by Spellbinders, Glue Glider, Mounting Squares.

Shopping: May Arts Ribbon from My Ribbon Saleabove my Blog header.

Products by Spellbinders, Glue Glider and Mounting Squares are availableat Joan’s Garden.

Blog Candy, Anyone? Check it out overat the JustRiteBlog. I think it runs untilmidnight tonight!

I’m so glad you could stop in today to check out our Friday Stamp Simply Challenge! Hope you can find some time to give it a try - it’s a fun one!!! I hope to find some time to get my stamp room a bit organized this weekend — a never ending task!!! Hope you get to do something you enjoy!!! See you soon!

Dirty Challenge/JustRite Wedding

Each month on the 20th the Dirty Girls issue a challenge amongst themselves. I LOVED the challenge this month, but I never got to play on time, so here’s my challenge card, 4 or 5 days late!!! Oh well, it was fun and I really wanted to do it!!! What we had to do was take one of the very first cards we ever uploaded to SCS and re-make it, showing both cards — HOW FUN!!! You can check out all the other challenge entries here. Please do, it is SO FUN to compare the cards!!!

I chose to case the VERY FIRST card I uploaded to SCS on April 20, 2006– here it is:

jeremy-adj-360.jpg

It’s a wedding card forournephew and his bride. It was a recycling project. I cut their names from their wedding invitation and I tore the shell motif from the invitation as well. And here’s my 2009 remake:

dc-josh-jen-wed-480-wm-notime.jpg

Somewhat different, but still a lot of similarities. I kept the neutral color scheme, the names across the bottom, one single image focal point. I changed my ribbon treatment a bit and added more embellishments — pearls, a stick pin and scallops. My original card was 5.5″ square and my new card is 5.25″ x 7.5″ I’ve really been enjoying this size of late — gives me plenty of room!

dc-josh-jen-wed-detail-360-wm-notime.jpg

The image from Friends 24-7 is embossed with Vanilla Embossing Powder onto Kraft paper — and I am so loving my Kraft for elegant cards — LOL — surprises me as I always viewed Kraft as a country type paper!!! Used my favorite Bella Bleu DP again and I added a lot of pearls to the focal image, along with a stick pin through the bow for some wedding formality.

dc-josh-jen-wed-names-440-wm-notime.jpg

For this card I stamped my names using the JustRite Trompe Fonts in both Uppercase and Lowercase - 50 pt. The Lowercase Trompe Fontis just out and can bepre-ordered on the JustRite site or it can be found nowin the brick and mortar and online stores listed in this Blog post. The Trompe Font sets were used with my Harmony Rectangle Stamper — lines them up perfectly — every time!!! Personalization has NEVER been so easy!!!

Stamps: JustRite Trompe Script Uppercase Font, Trompe Script Lowercase Font, used on the Harmony Rectangle Stamper; SU Friends 24-7

Paper: SU Very Vanilla, Kraft, Bella Bleu DP

Ink: Versa Fine Vintage Sepia, Versa Mark

Accessories: By SU: Vanilla Embossing Powder, Pretties Kit, Chocolate Taffeta Ribbon. Sheer ribbon by May Arts, Martha Stewart Scallop Punch, Labels I Nestabilities by Spellbinders, Kaiser Pearls, Glue Glider, Mounting Squares.

Stamp Simply #79 - You’ve Been Tabbed!

A few things first:

Most importantly, #1) Please pray for a teenage boy named Nick who was accidentally shot in the head, and for his family. They are fromOhio, near where Tammy lives. You may read more about this tragedy on her post here (scroll to the bottom of the post). They are in desparate need of prayer — (Editing — Tammy reports here that Nick has passed away. Please continue in prayer for this family, especially the younger brother involved in the incident — thank you.)

#2) I’ve just added 7/8″Gingham Checked Ribbons in 10 colors to My Ribbon Sale at the TAB above myblog header, or click here.OK, now on to our challenge:

Keyword ssnotime79 -There is no time limit. You can play this challenge and upload yourproject at Splitcoastand/or your Blog, anytime at all! You’ve Been Tabbed! Today’s challenge is all about little bits of ribbon — ribbon TABS that is. Rather than adorning our card with wrapped ribbon or bows, let’s just use a bit of ribbon and make ribbon tabs — wide, narrow, whatever — let’s just make sure we have at LEAST one ribbon tab on our project today. Anything else goes!! Let’s all show each other how much fun we can have with our little scraps of ribbon!!! Anything you can do with a small piece of ribbon is what we’re after! And the most important rule HAVE FUN!!!

Heres my card for today using a little ribbon tab, but I also used a longer ribbon, too:

70-bella-bleu-gingham-480-wm-notime.jpg

Fun to make — and easy — only a stamped sentiment! Just playing with pretty things! I LOVE my new Bella Bleu paper by SU — and I’m using Kraft again, 2 days in a row - never before — LOL!!! I think I am falling in love with Kraft, especially with this gorgeous Bella Bleu!!! And this paper was a perfect match with my tan and white gingham ribbon (available in 2 widths at My Ribbon Sale above). I LOVE the combination of prints here — fun stuff!!! I also did one thing on this card that I rarely do. This is a top fold card and to wrap my ribbon I cut a slit in the top. I just typically don’t care to do that — it just bothers me to cut my card — LOL — but I know it’s perfectly OK!!! No harm done!!! And I love the look of the ribbon done this way on this card, so today it was a perfect solution. I just have to learn to loosen up — LOL!!!

Editing to Add: Bella Bleu is in the current BIG catalog by SU. I’ve been receiving emails all morning as no one can find it. I probably messed you up when I called it new paper — all I meant was that it is new to me — I just got it — but it is in the regular big book! Sorry about that!

Stamps: Bird on a Branch by SU

Paper: SU: Kraft, Bella Bleu DP

Ink: Versa Fine Onyx Black

Accessories: May Arts Gingham Ribbon (available at My Ribbon Sale above), Wal-Mart Buttons and Hemp, Needle, Thread, Glue Glider, and from SU: Large and Small Oval Punches, Corner Rounder, Eyelet, Cropadile, Mini Glue Dots, Dimensionals, Kraft Knife.

Thank you so much for stopping in today. Hope you can find time to play this fun challenge. I’m anxious to see what all of you and the DT girls come up with! Hope you take the time to check all the links above, too!!! I should be back with another post later today if all goes well — the Dirty Girls have their monthly challenge today (20th), and this is one I REALLY want to do — hoping I get it done!!! See you soon!!! Have a great weekend!!!

Country Gingham

Today’s Color Challengeat SCS called for Kraft, Riding Hood Red and Summer Sun, with Black as an option. Not my usual colors — at least not the Kraft and Summer Sun. In fact, I haven’t even owned any Kraft paper, ever, up until about 6 months ago when I ordered a pack *just in case* — LOL!!! Well, I guess today was the day! I love the use of Kraft in the work of those who use it regularly, but somehow it just never finds its way into my color palette. Here is today’s result, Kraft, Summer Sunand all:

cc210-happy-prima-480-wm-notime.jpg

Today’s colors just kind of screamed *country* at me –and what’s more country than a piece of gingham ribbon! And sorry if I’m boring you to deathwith the repetitive use of my new Primas, but they are still out and I love digging through all those pretty colors I got!!! I added some machine zig zag stitches to my gingham, my button is vintage from my stash and to me this card looked *happy* — thus the HAPPY sentiment from Define Your Life.

Stamps: SU Define Your Life

Paper: SU White, Black, Kraft, Summer Sun

Ink: Versa Fine Onyx Black

Accessories: May Arts 1.5″ Gingham Ribbon (available at My Ribbon Sale), Primas from Michaels, Martha Stewart Picket Fence Punch, Vintage Button, Sewing Machine and Thread, SU Glue Dots, Glue Glider from Joan’s Garden.

Glad you stopped in again - I do so truly appreciate it!!! I’ve got so many little projects in my head that need doing, I just hope I can get to them all — one day at a time!!! I just have to quit playing challenges for a bit and get back to my projects at hand that have been left hanging!!! I need to come up with something more *From Sue’s Kitchen* and I need a baby boy gift — coming soon — I hope!!! Hope to see you back here soon!!!

Stamp Simply #78 - White Mats

Before we start, I just want to point out that I’ve added lots more gingham ribbons to My Ribbon Sale at the TAB above myblog header, or click here.

Keyword ssnotime78 -There is no time limit. You can play this challenge and upload yourproject at Splitcoastand/or your Blog, anytime at all! You (and that means anyone and everyone, blogger or not!)can play as many times as you like!!! The point is to keep it simple, quick and have fun!!! Please link back here.

White Mats - When I make a panel to put on a card, my natural instinct is to mat it in a dark color, either black or the darkest of the colors used on the panel. However, I do love the fresh look of cards where the panels are matted in white. So today we are matting, or framing, our panels in white for a fresh, clean and springy look. You MAY use multiple mats on a panel if you like, but at least ONE of them MUST be white. That’s it — anything else goes!!! And the most important rule — HAVE FUN!!!

Heres my card for today using a white mat layer:

Playing with new things today, but still a simple design. New SU stamps and paper, new Primas and new May Arts ribbon!!! Fun!!! And my 2nd mat layer is white!!! I typically use a lot of black, and this time of year it just feels heavy at times — so I’m ready for some white!!!

Stamps: SU Bird on a Branch

Paper: White, Gable Green, Flock Together DP all by SU

Ink: Black

Accessories: SU Corner Rounder and Mini Glue Dots, Primas from Michaels, Buttons from Wal-Mart, May Arts Ribbon from My Ribbon Sale, Kaiser Pearl and Glue Glider from Joan’s Garden.

Thanks much for stopping in today and I hope you can find some time to play this simple and fun challenge! I can’t wait to blog hop and see what the Stamp Simply Designers have come up with!!! Heat It Up! When I was first learning to stamp it was gold embossing that totally WOWed me, and I still love it, though I often just don’t think to heat emboss with all the other toys available now. So for today I want you all to pull out those heat guns and heat emboss an image that will create a card conveying SIMPLE ELEGANCE!!! So go ahead and Heat it Up! with a Simply Elegant card using a heat embossed image — anything else goes!!! Have fun — I know I will!!!

Alternate: For those of you who may not own a heat gun, you may play today with a dry embossed image achieved either by hand embossing or with a folder and Cuttlebug, etc. But please be honest and use your heat gun today if you have one!!!

HUGE THANKSgo out toHeather Telfordwho served as our Guest Designer for the month of February!!! We all enjoyed Heather’s wonderful designs so much!!! Thank you Heather!!! It was so much fun having you with us!!! Please continue to keep up with Heather and her creations at her blog, bits & pieces.

Heres my card for today, using silver embossing:

77-heartfelt-embossed-480-wm-notime.jpg

I’m on a run of really simple cards, and here’s another! This is made with Heartfelt Thanks, a long time favorite from SU. I chose this two-step stampin’ set today because it is so quick and easy — the color comes from coloring my rubber with my SU markers, and the outline stamp is stamped in Versa Mark and then silver embossed, using my Stamp-a-ma-jig to line it up perfectly. My sentiment is also silver embossed, but it isn’t showing up the best in this photo. I tried to photo at an angle where you could see the raised embossing and its silvery shine — it kind of shows on the flower. Here’s a closer look:

77-heartfelt-embossed-detail-400-wm-notime.jpg

I just love the elegance the embossing adds! And I also zapped my sheer ribbon with the heat gun to crinkle it up. That is another thing I used to do a lot years and years ago but sort of have forgotten about. It really looks rather nice IRL, but looks like somewhat of a mess in these photos — so sorry!!!

And oops!!! I’ve been having a lot of those oops! moments lately. I made this card and am doing this post way too quickly as DS#2 and I are off shopping for a little kitchen remodeling project — well, I didn’t notice until viewing this card on the monitor, there is a stamp for the center of the flower that I intended to use — so just imagine a pretty yellow center in the flower — once again, sorry!!!
