Testing/Plus More!

This is a test to see if things are working.  My Blog has been down for nearly 2 days.  Just uploading a photo here to see if that works.

s5030134-resized-480-x-360.jpg

We printed this picture out the other day as my son needed it for a school project. He took this pic a couple summers ago.  It is right in front of our house.  We are actually considering taking the windmill down and selling it — anyone out there looking for a windmill?  LOL.  It’s maybe 60 feet tall, an Aermotor.  I’d say approximately 100 years old — but I’d have to ask my DH to be sure on that.

And once I’m testing, I might as well show you something I made and never posted:

ch-tag-360-432-wm-notime.jpg

This is a Christmas gift tag  I made using Spellbinders  recently revealed Labels 13 die templates.  I made this before the holidays and couldn’t share then as the die had not yet been revealed.  It’s a keeper of a die, I tell ya — TONS of uses!  Scroll down through my last few posts if you haven’t seen it used yet.  I was pleased as punch to be able to create its reveal projects!    It works perfectly with the JustRite stamps/shapes — a match made in heaven! The Labels 13 die templates are available as a preorder right now.  You can email me (ssj@up.net) if you’d like to be put on my list.  I also have the JustRite product used for sale in The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store — I used A Merry Little Christmas and the 2″ Round Wide Borders  on a 2″ Round Stamper.  This tag would be so pretty created with any image, in any theme.

Now, let’s see if this will post properly — fingers crossed!!!

And my last post was a day late in popping up due to these Blog issues — make sure to check it out — its a Blog Candy Post!!!  Fun for everyone!!!!

Stamp Simply #122 - Mid-Winter Perk-me-up!

Mid-Winter Perk-me-up!  Today we are all going to create projects with a floral theme and some fresh spring-time colors - whatever says *Spring* to you!  Let’s just forget our cold temps and think of those beautiful flowers due to pop up once spring does hit!   Just Think Spring and have some fun!

Remember to use Mr. Linky below!

Anyone is welcome and invited to play!  SCS Keyword is ssnotime122 for those who upload at SCS.  There is no time limit. You can play this challenge  anytime at all.  The point is to keep it simple, quick and have fun!!! Bloggers, please link back here using Mr. Linky below.

Check out the samples today on the blogs of these fabulous designers:

Please bear with us all as we each upload and link on Thursday night.  Everyone should be up and set by Friday morning.

You may see all SCS Gallery Submissions here.

And here’s my little card for today with a floral theme:

122-full-400-382-brighter.jpg

This little card was FUN!  It can be recreated in like 5 or 10 minutes at most.  And it’s small — perfect for giving with a little gift or sticking in a little basket of goodies.  The base card is 3 x 4 1/4.  The entire card  is 4 1/4″ square once the top tab is added.  It was quick because I used an image from Journal Notes by Crafty Secrets and merely stamped and cut one single sentiment using my Circle Nestabilities by Spellbinders.  And the sentiment I used is a brand new sentiment from a fun new set by JustRite Stampers.  It is called Seeds of Kindness and I’ll show you the graphics a bit later.  It’s certainly a keeper that’ll be used time and time again.

122-label-13-sent-detail360-243.jpg

Here’s a closer view of my card top.  You can see the simply stamped and cut fun sentiment — SO easy.  And to make the arched framework behind it I used my Labels 13 Die Templates by Spellbinders.  Yes, this is the same set of dies that I revealed for Spellbinders 2 days ago — you can see those posts here and here if you missed them.  Can you recognize the pretty shape?  Here I am only using about 3/4 of the die cut shape.  The top half is exposed to create my pretty framework card topper and the rest is tucked and secured between the layers.  The Labels 13 Die Template shape makes such a nice perfect staging for the round die cut sentiments.  Totally FUN, giving such importance and presence to my simple little single layer sentiment!  My bow is 100% Silk Ribbon in Mauve, tied on the Bow Easy.

JB-09735 Seeds of Kindness 1 5-8 Circles (3)

These are the graphics to JustRite’s newest sentiment set, Seeds of Kindness.  I think they are such pretty sentiments to use on our floral creations of any sort!  There are 6 centers and 6 borders that are interchangeable. They fit the 1 5/8″ and the 2″ Round Wood Stampers.  SEEDS OF KINDNESS sells for $14.95.  They can be used with the beautiful florals that JustRite has just come out with, or as I did today — making a super fast project with a preprinted image and a simply stamped sentiment!

And speaking of the new JustRite Florals, the DT girls have been sneak peeking them all week, but since I didn’t have a chance to play, I’ll show them to you here.  Both sets have 4 center and 4 borders, totally interchangeable, that fit the 3 1/4″ Round Wood Stampers and they are GREAT for coloring.  Here they are:

JB 09705 My Garden Borders

The one is MY GARDEN and it sells for $16.95.

JB 09700 Plant a Little Love

And this set is PLANT A LITTLE LOVE, also selling for $16.95.

And I’d like to link you to some great samples made this week by some of the JustRite DT girls, just in case you’ve been remiss like me and haven’t kept up with all that is going on.  Check out these beautiful and inspiring creations:  Barb Schram (socks??? TOO cute),  Barb Schram again (total gorgeousness!), gosh and Barb is going monogram crazy too, so just check it all out here - total WOW!  Check out Kathy Jones’ gorgeous sample of both Kindness and Love, her Garden Daisy, and lovely Hydrangea.   Way pretty!! Stop at the JustRite Blog for Sharon Harnist’s Copic Coloring Tutorial- you won’t want to miss it!  And don’t miss Becca Feeken’s super FAB Sunshine card — totally cool!  Check out how Heidi Blankenship has Planted a Little Love,  Michele Kovak’s pretty My Garden creation and her Plant a Little Love beauty!  And be sure to scroll down through Angela Barkhouse’s Blog to see all of her fun creations with these new sest!  What FAB DT creations have been popping up all week long!

And I have just read that these botanical sets are NOW shipping!!!  That’s a GREAT surprise!!!

Spellbinders Labels 13 Ornament Tutorial

Yesterday I revealed  the Spellbinders Labels 13 die templates and  showed you a trio of cards and a coordinating ornament.  Click here to see that post with links to 20 other fabulous projects by some of the best designers out there!

all-4-360-423-wm-notime.jpg

The majority of the items used to make this coordinated set are available in the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store.  Links and more product information will be at the end of this post.

I promised you a step by step tutorial on the ornament I had created, so here we go:

1-cut-shapes-360-366-wm.jpg

Using the largest Labels 13 die template, cut and emboss 12 pieces of coordinating designer paper.  I used Lilac Avenue by Kaiser.  Choose 6 darker and 6 lighter colors for variation in your ornament as it twirls around.

leafing-360-w.jpg

Once cut, and while working on a scrap of paper, use your Silver Leafing Pen by Krylon to go around the outside edges of the ornament.  It is super easy to do this.  I know it scares some people, but truly, anyone can do this.  The Leafing Pen tip is like a marker tip.  It’s kind of squishy.  Starting at any corner, push your pen tip into the corner, holding the piece firmly down on the table with your left hand (assuming you are right handed) and draw the pen towards you in a firm and smooth movement, following the die cut edge, until you reach the next corner.    The pen tip just kind of grabs the edge of the paper and it forms a groove into the pen tip, allowing the pen to  just glide around the die cut, giving you a very smooth line.  It easily goes around all the graceful curves on the Labels 13 die cuts.  Set aside and let dry for a good 10 minutes or so until you handle it again.  Edge all 12 die cut pieces.

2-fold-360-222-wm.jpg

Once edged and dried, fold all 12 pieces in half lengthwise.  Just line up what will be the outer edges of your ornament sections, and firmly press down, making a nice and neat crease.

3-glue-360-444-wm.jpg

Now we put them together.  I found it easiest to work in sections of 3.  You will end up with 4 sections of three.  Then you can attach the sections together.  It just comes straighter this way than trying to attach all 12 together at once.

The Zip Dry Glue that Jerri Kay always raves about is the perfect glue for this project.  It’s a nice consistency, it’s clear, and once you apply it to your paper you have plenty of time to move the paper about so you can get them lined up just perfectly.  It’s slippery and allows the paper to move well, but yet sticks super tight and uniformly.  Shown above are 3 pieces attached to each other, forming one of our 3-section units.  Make 4 of these.

Once all 4 are made, attach them all together in the same fashion, BUT DON’T GLUE THE LAST 2 SECTIONS TO EACH OTHER.  We need to leave an opening to get our ribbon hanger inside.

make-hangar-360-128-wm.jpg

My beads came from Wal-Mart. When purchasing beads, make sure they have holes large enough for your ribbon to run through them easily.  The beads with the largest holes were used for the hangars.

To make your ribbon hanger and tassel I used 1/8″ 100% Silk Ribbon by May Arts.  I pulled out 3 lengths, just kind of eye-balling how long I wanted my tails to be.  Each piece is folded at the top, making 3 loops.  (We cut 3 pieces of ribbon, and by folding it we have 6 strands)  Run the 3 loops through a bead.  Bring the bead down as far as how long you want your hanger to be, then tie a knot in the ribbon above the bead.

Now we just lay our ribbon strands into the ornament (remember, we left one side open), apply glue and adhere it closed on the final section, with the ribbon tucked neatly inside.  I couldn’t get a pic of this as I was all thumbs trying to do it, much less take a photo at the same time — my talents only go so far — LOL!!!  It’s not hard, just hard to get a pic while doing it — LOL!!!  When you get that final section glued, this is what it’ll look like:

4-ribbon-hanger-360-212-wm.jpg

Now run the bottom ribbon through another bead, slide it up to the ornament and tie a knot so it’ll stay.

thread-beads-360-247-wm.jpg

The final step is to punch holes in the centers of each *flap*.  I used my Cropadile and to insure that they all came perfectly consistent, I made a little template from another die cut and placed it over each section as I punched — perfect, every time!

Now, using a large-eyed needle, run your ribbon through each hole, adding a bead between each section.  Adjust your ribbon so you have the length you want to let your beads dangle how you like. I tied my ribbon into a tiny little bow at the back when I was done.  And here you have the completed ornament:

finished-ornament-360-459.jpg

And I have one more fun thing I want to share with you today.  I love this Lilac Avenue Paper by Kaiser and, at the request of many of you, I have put together a kit of coordinated items for your ease in creating lovely projects.  I’ve called it the

Stamp Simply Lilac Avenue Kit

The Kit includes all the pretties you’ll need to make a project similar to this, plus you’ll have tons left over for many, many more creations.  Briefly, the kit includes the pad of Lilac Avenue 6 x 6 paper, coordinating ink, pearls, rhinestones and 100% Silk and Gingham ribbons by May Arts.  Here’s what you’ll get:

trio-480-428-notime.jpg

When I first saw the die templates I was asked to work with, I instantly saw a beautiful framework for the monogram projects I so love to do.  The S4-248 Labels 13 Die Templates worked beautifully with my monograms on this trio of cards.

detail-horiz-320-263-notime.jpg

And as a total bonus, these die templates can be used either vertically or horizontally with equally lovely results, adding a bit of variety to a gift set of cards.  Above you can see the die template was used horizontally.

detail-vert-320-309-notime.jpg

And on this card the same die template was used vertically. To give a nice finish to the edges of my die cut frames, I used a silver leafing pen to outline them.  It was very easy to run my leafing pen around these graceful curves, giving them a nice finished appearance.

paper-400-276-notime.jpg

This trio of cards was super quick and easy to make. I love making these little card trios for small gifts for friends.  They are all standard A2 sized cards, 5.5″ x 4.25″.  Two shown are a half sheet tent fold (8.5″ x 5.5″) and one is an elongated tent fold made by cutting your paper lengthwise (4.25″ x 11″).  Once my white card bases are made, I cut coordinating sheets of designer paper (this is Lilac Avenue by Kaisercraft) to cover my card completely.  As you can see, I added a line of silver leafing to tie in with the leafing on the monogram.

diecuts-480-332-notime.jpg

I then prepare all my die cut pieces.  I first stamp and emboss my monogram in silver using a JustRite Monogram set and cut and emboss it and a coordinating mat with my Classic Circle Nestabilities, using S4-116 Standard Circles SM #3 (where #1 is the smallest) for the monogram and S4-114 Standard Circles LG #3 for the mat.  I cut and emboss my framing using S4-248 Labels 13 Die Template, and continue to cut and emboss my Flourish Accents using S4-198 Flourish Accent  die templates.  Once having all my pieces cut and embossed, it’s a quick process to put the cards together.

assemble-and-embellish-356-480-notime.jpg

The upper photo shows my card with all the die cut pieces adhered.  I like to run the smaller Flourish Accent die cuts through my small Xyron X.  It makes them so easy to then adhere.  The bottom card is finished.  You can see that I’ve added some Kaiser Rhinestones and Silk Ribbon by May Arts to dress it up!

s4-248-labels-thirteen.jpg

S4-248 Labels 13 Die Template has a MSRP of  $24.99.  The die sizes are:

1)  1 x 13/16″

2)  1 5/8 x 1 3/8″

3)  2 5/16 x 1 15/16″

4)  2 15/16 x 2 1/2″

5)  3 5/8 x 3 1/16″

6)  4 3/8 x 3 11/16″

finished-ornament-360-459.jpg

This is another fun project I did using the S4-248 Labels 13 Die Template.  It’s an ornament, just for fun, and it coordinates with the trio of  cards above.  You could hang this in a window or archway or anywhere you have a hook or knob!  I LOVE having hand crafted items in view to enjoy throughout the day.  It was made using the largest die template and came together much more quickly than one might think!  I’ll plan to show you a full tutorial on this ornament in the next day or two, so check back in if you are interested!!!  TUTORIAL IS POSTED — CLICK HERE.

And here’s my card today with a romantic theme:

121-fill-heart-360-466-wm-notime.jpg

We have an out of town basketball game tonight so I was pressed for time today.  And when I’m rushed, I always grab my Journal Notes by Crafty Secrets.  This beautiful floral was from the Summertime pad.  I added a sentiment and bow and called it done!!!  Stamped Simply, for sure!

121-fill-heart-sent-detail-320-258.jpg

My sentiment is from Loving Thoughts (see graphic and description below).  Cut with Petite Circle Nesties, pierced for a lacey look, and adorned with Kaiser Rhinestones for some sparkle.  I used VersaFine Vintage Sepia Ink.  Simple layers, quickly done!

121-fill-heart-bow-detail-360-191.jpg

My bow was so pretty,  just wanted to show you.  This is a double bow of 100% Mauve 1.25″ Silk Ribbon by May Arts, made on the Bow Easy, adhered to the card with Aleene’s Fast Grab Tacky Glue that I get from Wal-Mart.  Just takes a minute to do this bow!

JR -09725 Loving Thoughts Centers

Here’s a graphic of the set I used — Loving Thoughts Centers by JustRite Stampers — for the 1 5/8″ Stampers.  This is one of the new releases that just shipped this week.  I have a good supply on hand.  They sell for $14.95.  Just email me if you’d like a set — ssj@up.net.

Christmas at Our House

Published by notimetostamp under Chit Chat

We have had one of the busiest Christmas seasons ever this year.  It has just flown by!  And I’m not even upset that my cards/letters still aren’t out — LOL — they’ll get there when I have time!!!  I just may need to use Valentine stationery!

I don’t usually share many family photos here, but thought I would this year seeing as we’ve had so many pretty girls here this Christmas.  They are SO agreeable to having their photos taken and uploaded — and I’m lovin’ it!  It’s the ONLY way my guys would ever agree — LOL!!!

boys-best-outlook-11-09-480-360.jpg

These are our 3 boys.  Ben (middle son), Steve (oldest) and Brian (youngest).  This photo was taken on Thanksgiving day at a scenic outlook above Hancock, overlooking Houghton, Michigan.

bribrit-as-sent-122509-480-360.jpg

This is Brian and his girlfriend, Brittany, down town one night with tree lights in the background.  She took this photo herself on her cell phone!  Brittany is my helper and wraps some of your ribbon.  She winds all the jute string.  Have you noticed those tiny little 10 yard bundles we switched to?  Wound around her petite little hands — LOL!!!  Brian is a high school senior and Brittany is a junior.

brianbrittany-tree-360-457.jpg

Here’s Brian and Brittany again by our Christmas tree.

ben-and-tanya-at-chriss-360-433.jpg

This is Ben and his girlfriend, Tanya, on Christmas Eve at a friends house for dinner.  Ben is a farmer/trucker/land improvement type of guy and Tanya is a nursing student due to graduate this spring.  Ben lives 3 miles around the corner from us on his own farm and Tanya goes to school about an hour and 1/2 away.

bentanyatree-360-480.jpg

Here’s another shot of Ben and Tanya by our Christmas tree.  And if you wonder why the tree is right in front of a door (LOL), that door goes to an outside porch that we never use in the winter months!

steve-marissa-tree-4-cropped-360-518.jpg

This is Steve and Marissa, taken on the morning they left this past weekend.  Steve is an engineer living in Columbus, OH and Marissa is a high school math teacher in that area as well.  This is the first time we’ve had the pleasure of meeting Marissa, and a pleasure she was!  They spent their time snowboarding at Mount Bohemia and Marquette Mountain, snowmobiling (a first for Marissa), watching the Rose Bowl Game and Marissa wanted to craft, so that pleased me immensely!!!  Marissa is a HUGE OSU fan!!!

marissa-working-360-497.jpg

And here’s Marissa working on her project in the kitchen.  Unfortunately my stamp room was WAY too filled up with my *stuff* to even find a square foot of work space for her (I’m workin’ on that - LOL!).  Notice her OSU Jersey and Buckeye necklace?  We learned all about Buckeye’s and she even made us some DELISH Buckeye candy (like peanut butter cups) — they were VERY addicting!

marissas-project-360-401.jpg

And here’s what Marissa made!  She wanted something for her desk at school, so we decided a pencil cup (once lid is removed) and a clothespin note holder would be perfect!  She used paper from K & Company’s Que Sera Sera 12 x 12 pad, May Arts Orange Gingham Ribbon and Kaiser Rhinestones.  I do believe this was her very first paper-crafting project!  She had a blast!  Think we can get her addicted????

And as for me, well, though I make cheese year round, December is my busiest month of the year for cheese-making as everyone wants their Christmas cheese!  What I make will be unfamiliar to most of you, so thought I’d share it here today.  Our family is 100% Finnish, and the cheese I make is a Finnish cheese called Juustoa (you-stew-a, accent on the YOU).  It is commonly referred to as ”Squeaky Cheese” as it does squeak in your teeth as you chew it — quite a lot!!!  It is made with fresh cows milk, rennet added (the agent that makes it coagulate, gel, thicken), then it is strained (just like Little Miss Muffet, separating her curds and whey), then baked in the oven, and salted when it is still warm out of the oven.

  done-in-sink-1209-360w.jpg

These are 2 cheeses (made in 12″ round pans) just out of the oven cooling.  They are setting in the sink as they are still warm and drippy.  The pans are resting on top of my milk buckets.  My milk comes in from the barn in these 3 gallon buckets.  I use 3 gallons of milk per cheese.  The ratio of milk to cheese is about 10 to 1.  The 3 gallons of milk weighs nearly 30 pounds and the yield is about 3 pounds per cheese.

cheese-served-10110-360-243.jpg

And this is what the cheese looks like served.  It is typically cut into small squares.   I always like to arrange it on a glass pedestal cake plate.  This is a small cake plate and there is just 1/2 of one cheese on this plate.  And the next logical question is — what does it taste like?  Well, that’s hard to describe.  People tasting it for the first time often say it reminds them of mozzarella, but it really isn’t the same at all.  It is white and soft and rather bland to taste, but truly delicious.  If you grew up eating it, you love it.  If it’s new to you, some love it immediately, some never care for it, and some say it is an acquired taste over time — LOL!!!  I wish I could give you each a piece to try so you could decide for yourself!!!

So the Christmas holiday season is now over.  I’m back to my normal routine of creating, blogging, wrapping ribbon and packing up packages.  Steve is still in the barn milking the cows (poor guy never gets out of those chores), and the boys help him when they can.  Brian and Brittany are back to school and basketball, Ben and  Tanya are back to work and school, and Steve and Marissa are back home working in Columbus.

Thank you so much for stopping in today and sharing our Christmas with us!  I have a lot on the agenda, so hope you can check back in often to see what is brewing!  Lots of fun stuff ahead!!  And I also want to take this opportunity to thank you all so much for supporting not only my blogging efforts but also The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store.  It has far exceeded any expectations I ever had, and I thank you all for that!!!  In an effort to make things easier for you all in the future, The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store will be seeing some changes in the next coming months.  It all takes time, so please bear with me!

Wishing You All a

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!!!

Flower Soft Blog Hop

We have some fun Flower Soft projects for you today!  The Design Team has been working with these darling Hedgerow Friends Card Toppers — totally fun little images.  I chose to work with this one because he looks like a boy Hedgehog and he has a warm and fuzzy scarf — something we all need up here in Michigan’s UP.  Here’s my card:

Isn’t he just darling!  I think this is great for either a general purpose pick-me-up type of card or even for a Valentine if you want something that’s not too lovey-dovey!  This was quick and easy to make – NO stamping.  My card is 5.5″ square.  I used White and SU Garden Green cardstock to coordinate with the image and Christmas Green 100% Silk Ribbon.  I used 3 colors of Flower Soft to give all the fun dimension.  Here’s a closer look:

With all the dimension you just want to reach out and touch this darling little guy!  I used Nut Brown Flower Soft for his hair, Autumn Mix Flower Soft for the border flowers on the heart topiary and the flowers around the pot base, and Sunshine Yellow Flower Soft for the stripes on the scarf and a bit on the flowers.  It is all adhered with my Flower Soft Glue

Now please take the time to check out all the fun projects the rest of the DT has done, as well as the Flower Soft  Blog:

And here’s my card today using several NEW items:

120-wedding-angle-360-397-wm-notime.jpg

We were invited to a wedding reception this evening, yes, on New Year’s Eve!  This is the card for that wedding.  The couple was actually married about 9 months ago just before the husband was deployed to Afghanistan.  He is now home and they are celebrating with their reception tonight.  God Bless this young couple as they begin their new life together and God Bless the USA in the year to come!

So, what did I use NEW on this card — many things!  The first of which I want to show you is the NEW JustRite stamp set called Loving Thoughts Centers.  The moment I saw this new set I knew which stamp I wanted to use for this wedding card — it was just perfect!!!

JR -09725 Loving Thoughts Centers

Loving Thoughts contains a combination of 1 5/8″ round centers as well as square & rectangular centers.  The 1 5/8″ centers can be used with all of the JustRite 1 5/8″ borders and the centers also work beautifully in the 2″ Square Frames, and that’s how I’ve used it here today on my wedding card.

2-inch-square-borders-6.jpg

This is the 2″ Square Frames set I used, which is still *kinda* new — LOL!!!  And I LOVE it — surely one of my favorite new items!  The Square Frames are used on the also *kinda new* 2″ Square Stampers.   I just can’t seem to get enough of these squares!!!  I used my Classic Square Nestabilities  by Spellbinders to cut the stamped image and mats.

120-wedding-straight-360-397-wm-notime.jpg

And one more NEW thing I used today is my paper — this sheet of designer paper is from a 6 x 6 pad called Lilac Avenue by Kaisercraft.  The pad has many highly reflective sheets in it and this is one of them.  I love the design in this paper combined with the design of the stamped square frame!  MADE to go together!!!  The bow is 100% White Silk Ribbon by May Arts and my double bow was made using the Bow EasyInstructions for this ribbon treatment can be found here.  My card is 5.5″ square and the frame/sentiment was stamped with Versa Mark Ink and silver embossed.

That was my quick and easy wedding card for today, using many NEW things — hope you liked it and hope you can find some time to play along and show us something NEW coming out of YOUR stamp room!!!  Thanks much for stopping in!!!
