Bible Verse Challenge

A while back I got an email from Jami inviting me to play in a Bible Verse Challenge she and several friends were doing — it sounded like such a great idea!!! It was high on my *to do * list, but I never actually got anything started on it until tonight. The idea wasthat of Lori Craig in an effort to help memorize scripture, and this is the link to the challenge in the challenge forum at SCS. You can read all the details there, but the idea was to create a card or note or somethingwith a Bible Verse on it, and to do one a month for the remainder of the year. Anyone is welcome toplay along, just check out the link above. Anyway, this is my firstone and I do plan to make a file box to keep these all in as I continue to make more. Here’s my first:

sc162-bible-ch-540-wm-notime.jpg

This is like an index card, it does not open, and I plan to make a box for all these index cards I plan to make. The blue card base is 6 x 4, and I’ve rounded all top corners. The DP used is all from the Periphery pack by Basic Grey — just love that stuff!!!

The Bible Verse I chose is Psalm 118:24 - This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. I thoughtthis would be an appropriate verse to begin with seeing as it has been in my signature line at SCS right from the beginning. I find this verse so simply refreshing and rejuvenating. Yes, this IS the day the Lord has made and given to us — he gives us each and every day — and for that we should be thankul, rejoice and be glad! What a beautiful thought to have each morning as we arise — and I wanted to use this pretty Periphery sheet with the bird on the branch to signify the morning with all the birds chirping.

I did this in what I call sort of a *Clean Shabby* style. I used Tim Holtz Distressing Inks to shabby up my edges of the DP, along with a distressing tool on the edges of the sentiment piece (which was printed on the computer); however, I kept a clean and somewhat fresh look by keeping my sentiment panel pure, clean white (by Paper Trey) and by keeping my base card a fresh and clean blue. My blue taffeta bow is clean and fresh, too. All stamped images are from a favorite set of mine, Flourished Elements by Flourishes, and they also carry the Periphery paper used. I absolutely love working with these gorgeous papers that have such lovely images on them — it’s fun trying to get the printed image to work for you with your design.

  • Stamps: Flourished Elements by Flourishes
  • Paper: SU: Bashful Blue, Chocolate Chip. Paper Trey White. Periphery DP by Basic Grey.
  • Ink: Versa Fine Onyx Black, Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Antique Linen and Vintage Photo.
  • Accessories: Taffeta Ribbon; Copper Hodgepodge Hardware and other unknown, Distressing Tool, 1/8″ punch (to run ribbon through), Round Tab Punch, Corner Rounder, 3/4″ Punch, Crafter’s Tool Kit.

This is the link to the gallerywhere all theBible Verse Challenge uploads are. They have some really gorgeous Bible Verse cards you might like to check out!!!

Oh, almost forgot, this layout is from this weeks Sketch Challenge at SCS — great sketch to work with!!!

Thanks so much for stopping in — truly appreciate it!!! Be back with more Flourishes projects real soon, and hopefully a box soon, too!!! Thanks — and have a great day!!!

Very nice! I should do this with the Bible verse I am SUPPOSED to memorize each week for my ladies’ Bible study!!! Instead….here I am lurking on peoples’ blogs! :) Well, I figure that God gave us the gift of creativity, so I am exercising my gift!
