Stamp Simply #78 - White Mats

Before we start, I just want to point out that I’ve added lots more gingham ribbons to My Ribbon Sale at the TAB above myblog header, or click here.

Keyword ssnotime78 -There is no time limit. You can play this challenge and upload yourproject at Splitcoastand/or your Blog, anytime at all! You (and that means anyone and everyone, blogger or not!)can play as many times as you like!!! The point is to keep it simple, quick and have fun!!! Please link back here.

White Mats - When I make a panel to put on a card, my natural instinct is to mat it in a dark color, either black or the darkest of the colors used on the panel. However, I do love the fresh look of cards where the panels are matted in white. So today we are matting, or framing, our panels in white for a fresh, clean and springy look. You MAY use multiple mats on a panel if you like, but at least ONE of them MUST be white. That’s it — anything else goes!!! And the most important rule — HAVE FUN!!!

Check out the greatsamples for the Stamp Simply Challenge today on the blogs of these designers:

What wonderful samples!!! Thank you girls!!! Much appreciated!!!

Heres my card for today using a white mat layer:

78-prima-bird-480-wm-notime.jpg

Playing with new things today, but still a simple design. New SU stamps and paper, new Primas and new May Arts ribbon!!! Fun!!! And my 2nd mat layer is white!!! I typically use a lot of black, and this time of year it just feels heavy at times — so I’m ready for some white!!!

Stamps: SU Bird on a Branch

Paper: White, Gable Green, Flock Together DP all by SU

Ink: Black

Accessories: SU Corner Rounder and Mini Glue Dots, Primas from Michaels, Buttons from Wal-Mart, May Arts Ribbon from My Ribbon Sale, Kaiser Pearl and Glue Glider from Joan’s Garden.

Thanks much for stopping in today and I hope you can find some time to play this simple and fun challenge! I can’t wait to blog hop and see what the Stamp Simply Designers have come up with!!! Hope you stop in and visit them all, too!!! You will NOT be disappointed!!! Have a great weekend, everyone!!!

    Hi Sharon,

Nice card. I have a question–when you knot ribbon on a button like that, are you actually pulling each end through and then tying the knot or just using a glue dot to attach the ribbon on top?

    Thanks,
    Cindy

Not sure if I’ll get this uploaded to SCS or not, so here’s my link…you’re right, I don’t normally think of white for mats, but it does add a nice light touch to the cards.

Thanks for making me re-think matting.

[…] Sharon’s Stamp Simply challenge this week is to use a white mat in your card.  I was surprised how hard it was.  I usually pick a colour from the stamped  image for my mats so I ended up stamping in versamark and embossing  a white image on designer paper  then matting each square in white.  Sharon’s design team made some beautiful cards, several using white on white which was lovely, but I couldn’t seem to get that to work for me today. […]

  43. Heatheron 15 Mar 2009 at 10:16 pm

I was surprised how tricky I found this, I guess I rarely matte with white. I love the fresh crsip look of it though and your bird on a branch is simple and beautiful.
    My card is here:

I have been CASing a bunch of your cards this evening which I will be posting over the next few days. I needed inspiration and I can always find it here.

I used white mats on my treat bag that I made for a co-worker on St. Patrick’s Day. It seems to me that I do end up using white mats in circles more than I thought. Perhaps the better challenge for me would have been to use rectangular white mats.
