Ribbon Inspiration/Stamp Simply Style – Valentines

Welcome back to our first Ribbon Inspiration challenge for 2012.  Today the design team is creating Valentines.  Everyone went in a different direction and I think you’ll enjoy the HOP.  As always, the Blog Candy will be listed at the end of this post.

For my Valentine project today I created a hanging Valentine.  I LOVE to hang hand crafted creations on knobs or hooks around my house and that’s where this will go, for me to enjoy, until (and if) one of my boys claims it!  We shall see!  Here it is:

This was easy and fun to make and I love the vintage feel it has.  A message of love can be handwritten on the back.

I started by cutting out the 3 different sized hearts from Nested Hearts by Spellbinders. I used SU Very Vanilla cardstock and then using the die as my stencil I colored the embossed swirls through the die with a Copic marker rather than inking them in the traditional manner.

I then stacked the hearts of top of each other using 3D Foam Squares for elevation.

My sentiment is stamped using JustRite’s Happy Everything Tag Making Kit (currently on sale).  It’s a favorite of mine as it comes with sentiments for a variety of occasions, the stamper and dies.  A totally inclusive kit.  There are also several add-on sets, Christmas and Just Because, an all purpose set.  They are all on sale and can be seen here.

On this project I just cut my sentiment panel and mat layer at the paper cutter and then cut the fish tail ends by hand with scissors.  That little piece of designer paper is from Head Over Heels by Lily Bee Design. The pads by Lily Bee Design are darling and can all be seen here.

To create my topper detail, I first punched a hole in the top of the heart tab (there’s a little tab on the heart).  I ran my 1.5″ Silky Crushed Ribbon in pewter through the hole to create the hanger.

I then made a bow out of 1.25″ Silk Ribbon in pink.  I made the bow on the smallest legs of the Bigger Bow Easy. I then glued the bow onto the tab over the hole I had punched.

Then I hand tied a bow of 1/8″ Velvet Ribbon in gray and glued it on, then gluing the Fairytale Roses on top.  I use Aleene’s glues available at all super stores and craft stores.  It is very inexpensive and it holds well.  All my layers of glued bows and flowers are always as tight as can be and will never fall off.  I do have to glue, hold, press each layer for just a bit until it catches, but it’s worth it to me to have a totally secure focal embellishment.

Interested in other heart themed products? See some here.

All items used are available at The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, as linked above.
