Beautiful Gelatos – by Darsie Bruno

Published by at 8 00 am under Gelatos,JustRite Products

Darsie shares a gorgeous card today created by coloring a background with Gelatos and accenting it with the gorgeous corner dies by Becca Feeken.  The effect of the Gelato colored background is just stunning.  You’ve likely seen Darsie use this technique many times, and I’ll pull up some of her previous creations to show you as well.

This is Darsie’s most current project using Gelatos, adding in the NEW corner dies — so soft and pretty!

You can see the full post on Darsie’s blog here.

For today’s project Darsie used:

Stamps: Secret Garden, a background stamp by JustRite

Paper: White and green cardstock

Dies: Filigree Corner Dies from the Amazing Paper Grace Collection by JustRite/a Spellbinders co-branded die

Inks: VersaMark, White Embossing Powder, Heat Gun, Gelatos for coloring

Ribbon:  May Arts 1/4″ Silk – Pink

Miscellaneous: Kaisercraft Pearls – White

All items available at The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, as linked.

Here’s a visual of what Darsie used today:

Secret Garden – a background stamp by JustRite

Find all JustRite background stamps here.

And when clicking into the above link for background stamps, you may be wondering WHY there is such variance in prices on similar type stamps.  Here’s the story:  JustRite, due to increased manufacturing costs, had to increase their prices as of 7/1.  If I have stock I purchased before 7/1, it is still at the old price.  If my stock was purchased after 7/1, then it reflects the new price, plus most of the new background stamps even reflect a small discount!  Check them all out here.

These are the two NEW die sets designed by Becca Feeken for her Amazing Paper Grace Collection, co-branded JustRite/Spellbinders dies.

Today Darsie used the set on the left – Filigree Corner Dies

Also available on the right is Lacey Tiers Dies.

Both sets contain fabulous, intricate detail.  Just beautiful!

You can see ALL stamps and dies designed by Becca Feeken here.

Darsie created this card using her Gelatos with a much darker effect.

You can see Darsie’s original post here.

Stamps used:  Antique Damask Background, Good Friends Labels Twenty-nine

This is how Darsie explained her use of Gelatos on this card:

Gelatos are an emollient-based water-soluble medium that glides smoothly  onto nearly any surface to create rich swaths of pure color.  They may  be blended without water using your fingertip or a blending tool, or  with water using a paintbrush or damp cloth. They are often referred to as ‘smooth as butter” or like ‘painting with lipstick’, but there is no oily residue and their water-soluble qualities make them very  compatible with other mediums.

Use on all types of paper, cloth, canvas,  wood and other porous surfaces as well as rubber, foam and clear  stamps.  They are available in 22 opaque colors and 6 shimmering  metallics.  They are light-fast, acid-free, archival,  odorless, water-soluble, permanent and work great on dark surfaces.
Baby Wipe Technique
To create my gorgeous background, I used a baby wipe and rubbed it against the tip of a gelato and then smoothed the wipe onto my mixed media paper in various areas. I next added a different color and repeated the process until I was happy with the results. It’s so easy to blend the colors with the moist baby wipe! My color sets were the Faber-Castell Gelatos Blue Set and Green Set. Once the background was dry, I stamped the left side of my panel with the Antique Damask background with Tsukineko/Imagine Crafts StazOn Black. To finish it off, I added a sentiment, pearl and lace trim, a pretty rose and a fluffy silk ribbon bow.

Products used by Becca Feeken (JustRite):  Mix and Match Sentiments, Lacey Tiers Die

And here’s how Darsie describes what she did on this card:

For my pretty card, I used the circle portion of the die to create a mask. I cut 2 of the circles, cut them in half, then laid them on top of my white cardstock, and used Faber-Castell Gelatos with my baby wipe technique on it. Once it was dry, I adhered the frame to the center, stamped my sentiment, then added my embellishments.

Another gorgeous example by Darsie — here’s her original blog post.

Stamps Used:  Secret Garden Background, Vintage Banners

Here is Darsie’s commentary on this card:

With JustRite’s background stamps, you can make quick and easy cards by stamping the background with Versamark, embossing it with white powder then embellishing with a tiny sentiment and bow! Card made in less than 15 minutes!!

I used the baby wipe technique again with Faber-Castell Gelatos.  It’ so simple to do, yet has such a ‘wow’ effect! You’ll want to use sturdier paper for your backgrounds, so that it doesn’t warp when you use the baby wipe!

And here’s one last example by Darsiesee her original blog post here.

Stamps and Dies used:  Floral Thank You, 5×7 Detailed Scallops, 5×7 Matting Basic A

And here’s Darsie’s commentary on this project:

I used the baby wipe technique to get my beautiful rich colors, then stamped the flower using black StazOn, and finished it with a luscious bow made of silk ribbon.  My finished card size is 5 x 7 inches!
